The safety label is located on a plate inside the base of the unit visible when the bottom louver is opened. Ensure that the safety label is attached to the unit. INSTALLATION FOR YOUR SAFETY This appliance requires air for proper combustion. Always provide adequate combustion and ventilation air. Follow instructions and information in CSA B149.1 (in Canada) or the National Fuel Gas Code ANS Z223.1/NFPA (in the USA), regarding requirements for combustion and ventilation air. INSTALLATION AND REPAIR SHOULD BE DONE BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE PERSON. THE APPLIANCE SHOULD BE INSPECTED BEFORE USE AND AT LEAST ANNUALLY BY A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PERSON.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT MESSAGE SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS The FPI Direct Vent Gas Insert must be installed in accordance with these instructions. Carefully read all the instructions in this manual first. Consult the building authority having jurisdiction to determine the need for a permit prior to starting the installation. NOTE: Failure to follow the instructions could cause a malfunction of the heater which could result in death, serious bodily injury, and/or property damage.
INSTALLATION INSTALLATION CHECKLIST Before installing vent system ensure that the damper plate is open and secure to prevent the damper plate from falling down and crushing the liner. The FPI Gas Insert is installed as listed below. 1) Check all clearances to combustibles. Refer to the following sections where applicable: a. Minimum Clearances to Combustibles. b. Combustible Mantel Clearances c. Mantel Clearances 2) Make the gas connection. Refer to the "Gas Connection" section. 10) Final check.
INSTALLATION MINIMUM CLEARANCES TO COMBUSTIBLES COMBUSTIBLE MANTEL CLEARANCES Unless otherwise stated the clearances listed below are Minimum distances to combustible materials. Please Note: A major cause of chimney related fires is due to a failure to maintain required clearances (air space) to combustible materials. It is of the greatest importance that this insert and vent system be installed only in accordance with these instructions.
INSTALLATION VENTING THE APPLIANCE MUST NOT BE CONNECTED TO A CHIMNEY FLUE SERVING A SEPARATE SOLID FUEL BURNING APPLIANCE. This appliance is designed to be attached to two 3" (76mm) co-linear aluminium flex running the full length of the chimney. The flue length must be a minimum length of 8' (2.44m) and a maximum of 35' (10.7m). Periodically check that the vent is unrestricted. The HZI234E is also approved for use with a 2" liner for air intake and a 3" liner for exhaust.
INSTALLATION CONVERTING FROM 3" & 3" VENTING TO 3" & 2" 1) Remove the top plate from the unit by undoing the screw at the front of the firebox and slide out towards the back of the unit. VENT RESTRICTOR POSITION The Vent Restrictor plate is located on the inside top of the firebox. To change the vent restrictor position, refer to the instructions below; 1) Remove the glass door. 2) Remove panels if installed. 3) Remove the 4 screws that hold the vent restrictor plate in place.
INSTALLATION FLUE LINER INSTALLATION 1) Cut the flex liner as required. 2) Mark the end of one liner with an "E" to indicate Exhaust. 3) Connect the other end of the above liner to the exhaust side of the termination cap, seal connection with high temperature silicone. Secure with gear clamp or screws. 4) Connect the 2nd liner to the inlet side of the cap, seal connection with high temperature silicone. Secure with gear clamp or screws.

INSTALLATION Spring Hook 8) Remove the burner by removing 3 screws. 13) Pull off the pilot cap to expose the pilot orifice. 14) Unscrew the pilot orifice with the Allen key and replace with the LPG pilot orifice in the kit and replace pilot cap. 9) Slide burner forward and lift up and out. 10) Pull off the pilot hood cover. 15) Remove burner orifice with a 1/2" wrench and discard. Use another wrench to hold on to the elbow below the orifice.
INSTALLATION 3) Attach the label “This unit has been converted to LPG” near or on top of the serial # decal. 4) Replace yellow “NG” label with red “LPG” label. 5) Adjust aeration setting on burner, see aeration adjustment section in manual. 6) P33SE-4:Reverse steps 4-1 on previous pages. INSTALLATION GLASS CRYSTALS OR OPTIONAL CERAMIC STONES INSTALLATION ON BURNER Evenly spread the Glass Crystals or optional Ceramic Spa Stones or Volcanic Stones over the burner. Ensure the crystals (or stones) do not overlap too much as this will effect the flame pattern. IMPORTANT NOTE: Only the supplied approved Glass Crystals and Ceramic Spa / Lava Stones are to be used with these fireplaces.

INSTALLATION REFLECTIVE PANEL INSTALLATION Before installation, panels must be handled and cleaned as per instructions noted below: Black Enamel Panels • Black Enamel panels must be inspected for scratches and dimples prior to installation. All claims to be recorded at this time. Claims for damage after installation will not receive consideration. • Black Enamel panels will discolor a little during normal operation. This is normal and should not be considered a defect.
INSTALLATION GLASS DOOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION OPTIONAL SCREEN DOOR REMOVAL / INSTALLATION 1) Remove the glass door. 1) Remove the glass door. a) Pull off the left side spring hook that holds the door in place. While holding the hook turn it upside down and place it into the middle opening on the top side mounting bracket. Repeat for right side. 2) Hook the screen door over top of the glass door. b) Swing the door out 45 degrees and lift up and out.
INSTALLATION LOW PROFILE FACEPLATE INSTALLATION (3 AND 4 SIDED) 1) Install 4 screws on sides of unit - in locations show below - do not tighten screws. 2) Install the faceplate backing plate - slide the keyhole slots on the faceplate over the screws installed in Step 1. When in position, tighten screws. 4) Remove the battery pack holder from the right hand side faceplate.
INSTALLATION 7) Connect the red/black wires (tagged battery). 10) Connect the fan rheostat to the wires from the unit behind the left side of the backing plate as shown below. 8) Install 4 - AA batteries. (Do not connect a 9V battery). NOTE: Ensure connectors are tucked in behind the back of the faceplate panel. 9) Reattach the battery pack holder to the faceplate and ensure the loose wires are away from the side of the firebox. 11) Hook the front faceplate over the installed backing plate.
INSTALLATION CONTOUR & CONTEMPORARY FACEPLATE Faceplate Contents List: 1 1 4 2 1 Faceplate (Contour or Contemporary) Louver (Contour or Contemporary) Screws (10-24 x 1/2" Pan Head Phillips Black) Wire Clips Cable Tie 4) Place the 2 wire clips on the inside of the right faceplate panel as shown in diagram 3. Faceplate Installation: 1) Place the 4 10-24 x 1/2" screws into the faceplate mounting brackets as identified in diagram 1.
INSTALLATION 6) Peel off the tape from the velcro strips and mount the battery pack to the velcro on the inside of the right faceplate panel as shown in diagram 5. 10) From the left side faceplate panel expose the fan reostat wires from the sleeve and connect them to the wires from the unit as shown in diagram 8. Battery Pack Diagram 8 11) Tuck the wires completely into the sleeve and place the supplied cable tie to the end of it as shown in diagram 9.
INSTALLATION Completed Faceplate Installation: Diagram 11 13) Re-install the remote receiver bracket (reverse step 10). 14) Close the left side faceplate panel. 15) Fit the bottom louver into the slots at the bottom of the firebox as shown in diagram 12.
INSTALLATION OPTIONAL BACKING PLATE Note: Only used with either the contour or contemporary faceplate. Backing Plate Contents List: 9 1 Backing Plate Installation: Screws (#8 x 1/2" Type B Black) Backing Plate Attach Top Backing Plate to Faceplate 1) Remove the faceplate (Contour or Contemporary) from the unit if already installed. Backing Plate Assembly: 2) Lay the faceplate on its front, on a soft surface to prevent scratching.
INSTALLATION 5) Open the left and right side faceplate panels of the faceplate. Attach Left & Right Corner Backing Plate 6) Mount the faceplate onto the unit by aligning the 4 key hole slots in the faceplate with the screws installed to the mounting brackets on the unit. Tighten screws to secure. See diagram 3. 9) Place the right side corner backing plate over the top and right side backing plate. Push in place to secure, see diagram 5. Repeat for left side.
INSTALLATION OPTIONAL HEARTH TRIM-CONTOUR/STANDARD FACEPLATE Note: Only used with either the contour or contemporary faceplate. Hearth Trim Contents List: 4 1 Screws (10-24 x 1/2" Truss Head) Hearth Trim Customize Hearth Trim: a) The Hearth Trim can be adjusted to custom fit an installation by pulling apart the top piece from the bottom piece. b) Cut the top of the bottom piece of the hearth trim to the appropriate height using a metal cutting blade.
INSTALLATION OPTIONAL HEARTH TRIM - LOW PROFILE FACEPLATE Hearth Trim Installation: Hearth Trim Contents List: 2 1 #8 Screws Hearth Trim 1) Align the screw holes on the hearth trim with the screw holes on the flanges on the left and right side of the unit. Secure in place using 2 screws on each side as shown in diagram 1. Customize Hearth Trim: 2) Install faceplate. a) The Hearth Trim can be adjusted to custom fit an installation by pulling apart the top piece from the bottom piece.
INSTALLATION PROFLAME REMOTE CONTROL RECEIVER INSTALLATION 1) Remove faceplate if installed. 2) From the right side of the unit, locate and remove the grommet holding the on/off switch black and red wires and the battery pack wires. 4) Install Remote Receiver into left side opening, secure with two screws. Holes are pre-punched in frame. Be sure arrow on receiver is point up. Grommet 3) Pull wires back through opening. Access white and green wires from wire harness.
INSTALLATION 8) Bundle up excess wire harness leaving out the Green (TH) and White (TH/TP) wires from the Digital fireplace control wire harness, also leave out the DFC supply wire (black/red). 6) Connect the wire harness to the back of the remote receiver; Place wire clip holder on the side heat shield and put exposed wires into the clip holder.
INSTALLATION OPTIONAL WALL THERMOSTAT INSTALLATION This installation must be completed during initial install with the side access panel removed. A wall thermostat may be installed if desired. Recommended: Mount thermostat beside unit receiver. 1) Run wires from thermostat into the unit using the appropriate wire gauge - see chart below. Thermostat Wire Table Recommended Maximum Lead Length (Two-Wire) When Using Wall Thermostat (CP-2 System) Wire Size Max. Length 14 GA. 50 Ft. 16 GA. 32 Ft. 18 GA.
INSTALLATION WIRING DIAGRAM This heater does not require a 120V A.C. supply for operation. In case of a power failure, the burner switch and the optional remote control/thermostat will continue to operate. However, a 120V A.C. power supply is needed for the fan/blower operation. (Do not cut the ground terminal off under any circumstances.
INSTALLATION AC POWER ADAPTOR INSTALLATION (FOR SUREFIRE SYSTEMS) An optional AC power adaptor may be installed as a constant power source for the SureFire system. IMPORTANT: Recommend removing the 4-AA batteries in the SureFire receiver. This will avoid battery leakage and power drainage. 4-AA Battery pack may be re-installed into receiver during power outages. NOTE: For all Gas Fireplaces 120 volt power must be brought to the receptacle box inside the ERWWRP RI WKH ¿UHER[ (provided with the unit).
INSTALLATION FAN WIRING DIAGRAM CAUTION: Label all wires prior to disconnection when servicing controls. Wiring errors can cause improper and dangerous operation. Caution: Ensure that the wires do not touch any hot surfaces and are away from sharp edges. Verify proper operation after servicing.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS INSTALLATION OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS LIGHTING PROCEDURE 1) Read and understand these instructions before operating this appliance. IMPORTANT To ignite or reignite the pilot, you must first remove the glass door. 2) Check to see that all wiring is correct and enclosed to prevent possible shock. 3) Check to ensure there are no gas leaks. 4) Make sure the glass in the glass door frame is properly positioned. Never operate the appliance with the glass removed.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS COPY OF LIGHTING PLATE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFORE LIGHTING This appliance must be installed in accordance with local codes, if any; if none, follow the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54, or Natural Gas and Propane Installation Codes, CSA B149.1. WARNING: If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion may result causing property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS 1) Always turn the gas valve to the off position before cleaning. For relighting, refer to lighting instructions. Keep the burner and control compartment clean by brushing and vacuuming at least once a year. When cleaning the logs, use a clean soft paint brush as the logs are fragile and easily damaged. 2) Clean (never when unit is hot) appliance, door and louvers with a damp cloth. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
MAINTENANCE FAN REPLACEMENT 10) Pull off the pilot hood cover. 1) Unplug the power source. 2) Open the left and right side faceplate panels. 5) Remove the crystals. 3) Remove the bottom louver by pulling out. 4) Remove the glass door. a) Pull off the left side spring hook that holds the door in place. While holding the hook turn it upside down and place it into the middle opening on the top side mounting bracket. Repeat for right side. b) Swing the door out 45 degrees and lift up and out.
MAINTENANCE 13) Remove 13 screws to remove the fan access plate. 16) Remove 2 screws holding the fan bracket in place. 14) Lift fan access plate up and out. 17) Remove the fan by sliding forward, then lift the fan up and out. 18) Remove the ground screw holding the ground wire. Ground Wire Fan Cover Plate Removal 15) Unplug fan access wires. 19) Reverse steps to install fan.
MAINTENANCE VALVE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT 1) Shut off gas supply to unit and unplug the power source by disconnecting the batteries. 10) Slide burner forward and lift up and out. 2) Open the left and right side faceplate panels. Contour/Contemporary or remove front low profile faceplate. 3) Remove the bottom louver by pulling out. 4) Disconnect the EV1, EV2, and ground wires from the valve - as shown below. Ground 11) Remove 15 screws to remove valve assembly tray.
