Intended use
Thisproductallowsthequickconnectionofuptotwo8.9cm(3.5”)or6.4cm(2.5”)SATAhard
diskstoacomputer(viaUSB3.0)withouthavingtomounttheharddisksinanenclosure.Poweris
suppliedtotheproductthroughthepowersupplyunitincludedindelivery.Itisintendedforindoor
useonly.Donotuseitoutdoors.Contactwithmoisture,e.g.inbathrooms,mustbeavoidedunder
allcircumstances.
Forsafetyandapprovalpurposes (CE),youmustnotrebuildand/ormodifythisproduct.Ifyou
usetheproductforpurposesotherthanthosedescribedabove,theproductmaybedamaged.In
addition,improperusecancausehazardssuchasshortcircuiting,re,electricshocketc.Read
theinstructionscarefullyandkeepthem.Makethisproductavailabletothirdpartiesonlytogether
withitsoperatinginstructions.

Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety
information. If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on proper
handling in this manual, we assume no liability for any resulting personal injury or
damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
• Donotmovetheproductwhentheharddriveisinoperation.Turnitoandwaita
minimumof30seconds.
• Grasp the hard disk laterally in the housing, do not touch the plate with the
electronics.Electrostaticdischargecandestroytheharddisk.
• Themainsoutletmustbelocatedneartothedeviceandbeeasilyaccessible.
• Aspowersupply,onlyusethesuppliedmainsadaptor.
• Onlyconnectthepoweradaptortoanormalmainssocketconnectedtothepublic
supply.Beforeplugginginthepoweradaptor,checkwhetherthevoltagestatedon
thepoweradaptorcomplieswiththevoltageofyourelectricitysupplier.
• Neverconnectordisconnectpoweradaptorsifyourhandsarewet.
• Never unplugthepoweradaptor from the mains socketbypullingon the cable;
alwaysusethegripsontheplug.
• Whensetting upthe product,make surethat thecable isnot pinched,kinked or
damagedbysharpedges.
• Alwayslaythecablessothatnobodycantripoverorbecomeentangledinthem.

• For safety reasons, disconnect the power adaptor from the mains socketduring
storms.
• Thedeviceisnotatoy.Keepitoutofthereachofchildrenandpets.
• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become
dangerousplayingmaterialforchildren.
• Protectthe productfrom extremetemperatures, directsunlight, strongjolts, high
humidity,moisture,ammablegases,vapoursandsolvents.
• Donotplacetheproductunderanymechanicalstress.
• Ifitisnolongerpossibletooperatetheproductsafely,takeitoutofoperationand
protectitfromanyaccidentaluse.Safeoperationcannolongerbeguaranteedif
theproduct:
- isvisiblydamaged,
- isnolongerworkingproperly,
- hasbeenstoredforextendedperiodsinpoorambientconditionsor
- hasbeensubjectedtoanyserioustransport-relatedstresses.
• Pleasehandletheproductcarefully.Jolts,impactsorafallevenfromalowheight
candamagetheproduct.
• Alsoobservethesafetyandoperatinginstructionsofanyotherdeviceswhichare
connectedtotheproduct.
• Consultanexpertwhenindoubtaboutoperation,safetyorconnectionofthedevice.
• Maintenance, modications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an
expertorataqualiedshop.

• Placetheproductonaclean,dryandnon-slipsurface.Therubberfeet(4)contributetomaking
itstable.
• Switchtheon/oswitchON•(12)intotheoposition(thehalfoftheswitchfeaturingthedot
“•”hastofaceupwards).
• Connecttheconnectionplugoftheprovidedpoweradaptertothelow-voltageroundsocket
DC12V(11)onthebackoftheproduct.Plugthemainsplugofthecableintoasuitablemains
socket.
• PlugtheUSB3.0cable’sUSBBplug(13)totheUSBportUSB 3.0(10)onthebackoftheproduct.
• ConnecttheUSB3.0cable’sUSBAplug(14)toafreeUSBportonyourPC.
a) Inserting the hard disk and establishing a connection
Beforeuse,formatandpartitiontheharddisks.
Harddisksofthefollowingdimensionsaresupported:
8.9cm(3.5“)(26mmdeep)and6.4cm(2.5“)(9mmdeep)SATAharddisks.Safeoperation
cannotbeguaranteedforothersizes.
• OpenthedustprotectionapsofoneofthetwoslotsHDD1(1)orHDD2(2)todeterminethe
directiontotheSATApluginside.Holdtheharddisktobeusedonthesideofitsenclosureand
alignitaccordingly.
• CarefullypushtheSATAharddiskintoslotHDD1orHDD2,asfarasitwillgo.Thedustprotection
apswillopenautomatically.
• EnsuretheharddisksitstightlyontheSATApluginsidetheproduct.
• Ifyouwanttouseasecondharddisksimultaneously,putitintothesecondavailableslot.
• Switchtheon/oswitchON•intotheON•position.ThecontrolLEDsLink(5),Power(6)and
HDD1(7)and/orHDD2(8)lightupblue.Iftheharddiskwasproperlyformattedandpartitioned
previously,itwillappearasadriveonyourPC,readyforoperation.
• Start the data transfer. When the hard disk is accessed, the control LEDs HDD1 (7) and/or
HDD2(8)ashinblue.Alsonotethetable“c)LEDcontrolindicatorsexplained”.
Iftheharddiskisnotrecognised,theharddiskmaynothavebeenproperlyformatted
and partitioned. Observe the hard disk manufacturer’s and the OS manufacturer’s
instructionsforcorrectformattingandpartitioning.
b) Disconnecting and removing hard disk
• DisconnecttheUSBconnectionbyejectingthedrivejustlikeanyotherUSBdevice.
• Turntheproductousingtheon/oswitchON•.
• Waitforaminimumof30secondsuntiltheharddiskcomestoacompletestandstill.
• Presstheejectbutton(3)oftheslotusedtoejecttheinsertedharddisk.Holdtheharddiskon
thesidesofitsenclosureandcarefullyremoveit.
Ifnoharddiskisinsertedinanyofthetwoslotsandtheproductisturnedon,thenthe
controlLEDPowerlightsupred.
Dependingonhardwareconguration,theproductwillswitchtostandbymodewhen
youswitchyourcomputerintosleepmode.ThecontrolLEDPowerlightsupred.
