d) Hard disk cloning
• ThecloningfunctioncopiesthelesoftheharddiskinsertedinslotHDD1totheharddiskin
slotHDD2.“Cloning”notonlymeansthecopyingoftheexistingles,butalso“identity”.From
hereon,harddisksareclassiedasmasterharddisk(inslotHDD1)andcloneharddisk(inslot
HDD2).
Hard disk capacities:
Thecloneharddiskmusthaveatleastthesamecapacityasthemasterharddisk.
Alldataonthecloneharddiskareoverwrittenthroughthecloningprocess.
Ifthecloneharddiskhasalargercapacitythanthemasterharddisk,thefreestorage
spacecanlaterbeusedasanadditionalpartition.
• TheUSBcableisnotrequiredforcloning.Disconnectitfromtheproduct.
• Puttwoharddisksintotheslots.Turntheproductonusingtheon/oswitchON•.
• Pressandholdthe button Clone (9)for4 seconds. The control LEDPowerand the control
LEDs Link, HDD1 and HDD2 start ashing in orange. Each control LED represents a 25 %
incrementofthecloningprocess.Oncetherespectivepercentageisreached,thecorresponding
controlLEDstaysoncontinuously.
• Whenthecloningiscompleted,allcontrolLEDsashsynchronouslyinorange.Ifthecloning
processcannotbecompleted,orifanerrorhasoccurred,thecontrolLEDHDD2willashor
shinered.Seetable“c)LEDcontrolindicatorsexplained”.
Tips and notes
• AUSB3.0connectioncannotbeguaranteedforMacintoshandLinuxcomputers.
• USB3.0devicesaredownwardlycompatible.Thismeansthattheenclosurewiththeinstalled
harddiskdrivealsofunctionsonconventionalUSB2.0/1.1ports–butthenonlyatthemaximum
USB2.0/1.1speed.
• Thedockingstation supports plug &playand hot-swapping (device driversarerecognised
automaticallyanddevicescanberemovedfromthePCwhiletheoperatingsystemisrunning).
• Youshould,however,takeintoaccountthatdatamaybecorruptedortheoperatingsystemmay
crashiftheconnectioncableisdisconnectedwhiledataarebeingtransferred(orthecabinet
isswitchedoorthepowerunitisdisconnected).
• Always treat hard disks with care. Impacts during operation (also for a few seconds after
switchingo)maycausethewrite/readheadtotouchthemagneticdisk,whichdestroysthe
harddisk.
• Whenconnectingthe harddrivefor therst time,itmaytakeup toone minuteforit tobe
recognised.Thetimemayvarydependingonoperatingsystemandhardwareused.
• Anewharddiskhastobepartitionedandformattedbeforeitcanbeusedanddisplayede.gin
theWindows®lemanager.
• HarddiskdrivesforMacintoshcomputersuseadierentlesystemthanMicrosoftWindows®.
ThenativeHFS+lesystemforMacintoshisnotcompatiblewithWindows®withoutconversion.
Iftheharddiskdriveistobeusedforbothoperatingsystems,formattheharddiskdrivewitha
leformatthatiscompatiblewithbothoperatingsystems(e.g.,FAT32).
• Notethatcertainoperatingsystemsdonotsupportexternalstoragedriveslargerthan2TB,
namelyWindows®versionslowerthanXP64bit(includingXP32bit).Formoreinformationon
thesupportforyouroperatingsystem,pleasecontactthecustomerserviceoftheoperating
systemmanufacturer.
Cleaning
• Donotimmersetheproductinwaterorotherliquids.
• Beforecleaning,disconnecttheproductfromthecomputerandthepowersupply(disconnect
powersupplyunit).
• Useaclean,drysoftclothforcleaning.Donotuseanyaggressivecleaningagentsasthesemay
resultindiscolorationofthehousing.
