ItexhibitedkeypadandnetworkmanagedfunctionalitybysettingtheproperpinshighforHVAC
control.However,thisdesignwasnevertestedwitharealHVACunit.Forourproject,wewillfurther
developtheexistingdesigntotestingandimplementation.
AnLCDscreencommunicatestotheDigiusingRS232protocol.Itdisplaystheroomtemperature,
desiredtemperature,HVACsetting(heat/cool/off),andinputmode.Thekeypadgivestheuserthe
optionofincreasingordecreasingthetemperature,aswellastheoptionofchangingmodesfrom
automatic,manual,orhold.The3positionslideswitchallowstheDigicontrollertousetheheating
controls,thecoolingcontrols,ortoturnoff.Bothofthesemanualcontrolscommunicateusingthe
generalpurposeinput/outputpins(GPIO)ontheDigicontroller.ThePICControllerisresponsiblefor
detectingthetemperature,andcommunicati ngwiththeHVACinterfaceandtheDigicontroller.
Thepreviousteamalsomanagedtodesignthecontrolsystemofthewirelessnetworkmanaged
thermostat.ThemaincontrollerforthesystemistheDigiConnectWiEM.TheteamusedNet+Works
6.3BuildEnvironmenttoprogramtheDigiDevelopmentkit.Thisallowedtheteamtocreatesoftware
applicationswithbuiltinAPIsandintegrateddevelopmenttoolssothatitcancommunicatewiththe
PIC.
