Itexhibitedkeypadandnetwork‐managedfunctionalitybysettingtheproperpinshighforHVAC
control.However,thisdesignwasnevertestedwitharealHVACunit.Forourproject,wewillfurther
developtheexistingdesigntotestingandimplementation.
AnLCDscreencommunicatestotheDigiusingRS232protocol.Itdisplaystheroomtemperature,
desiredtemperature,HVACsetting(heat/cool/off),andinputmode.Thekeypadgivestheuserthe
optionofincreasingordecreasingthetemperature,aswellastheoptionofchangingmodesfrom
automatic,manual,orhold.The3‐positionslideswitchallowstheDigicontrollertousetheheating
controls,thecoolingcontrols,ortoturnoff.Bothofthesemanualcontrolscommunicateusingthe
generalpurposeinput/outputpins(GPIO)ontheDigicontroller.ThePICControllerisresponsiblefor
detectingthetemperature,andcommunicati ngwiththeHVACinterfaceandtheDigicontroller.
Thepreviousteamalsomanagedtodesignthecontrolsystemofthewirelessnetwork‐managed
thermostat.ThemaincontrollerforthesystemistheDigiConnectWi‐EM.TheteamusedNet+Works
6.3BuildEnvironmenttoprogramtheDigiDevelopmentkit.Thisallowedtheteamtocreatesoftware
applicationswithbuilt‐inAPIsandintegrateddevelopmenttoolssothatitcancommunicatewiththe
PIC.
