Medium Retro-Split Storm Collar Flashings

are not vertically aligned. This makes the finished assembly stronger. Wetting
the tabs with a little water can make the assembly slippery and a little easier to
insert into the tab slots. Slide the plug and skirt assembly down the roof
penetration to a height necessary to create a proper counter-flashing umbrella
cover.
Finally, fully open the stainless-steel hose clamp using a screw or nut driver. The
Retro-Split Plug includes a pre-molded channel that will accept the width of the
hose clamp. Position the clamp, and by using the worm drive action of the clamp,
place it onto the now assembled Retro-Split Storm Collar skirt and plug
assembly. Loosely tighten the clamp.
Before fully finish tightening the clamp, position the assembled Retro-Split Collar
downward and double check that the elevation is proper to cover the roof
penetration flashing. The overlap provides a weatherproof counter-flashing
umbrella. Do not force the Collar too tightly onto the flashing. This could cause
the skirt to deform or open.
After positioning the Collar, complete the tightening process of the stainless-steel
clamp using a screw or nut driver. This compresses the tabs held within the plug
slots by pressing the assembly onto the roof penetration. Be careful not to over
tighten, as this can distort the new storm collar.
Due to shrinkage of the EPDM rubber, and differences in temperature at
each job site, the plug cut may not visually completely close, and a small
gap observed. Use finger pressure to push the plug cut together while
simultaneously tightening the clamp.
