Installation Instructions

!
CAUTION: The burner chamber is a sealed area. If
the burner access door is removed, the burner
access door gasket must be replaced. This should
only be done by a qualified service technician.
Inspect the area of the installed water heater for the
presence of materials that could produce flammable
vapors (Ex: gasoline, cleaning compounds, paints/
solvents) or the presence of bleach or ammonia.
Remove any of these materials and thoroughly ven-
tilate the area where the water heater is located. If
the area is not clear of flammable vapors, the
Flammable Vapor sensor (FV Sensor) will trip
immediately.
Parts Included in this Kit: Inspect contents of this kit for
possible missing or damaged components. See Figure 1.

DETERMINE THE TYPE OF COMBINATION
CONTROL GAS VALVE (THERMOSTAT)
Before you can proceed with these instructions you need to
determine which type of Control Gas Valve is on the water
heater. If the water heater was built before October 2007 it may
have an Invensys/Robertshaw Control Gas Valve. If the water
heater was built after October 2007 it will have the White
Rodgers Control Gas Valve. See Figure 2 and 3 to determine
which Control Gas Valve you have and follow the instructions
for that type of Control Gas Valve.
INVENSYS/ROBERTSHAW CONTROL GAS VALVE
