4.10 Checking and setting the planer knives:
CAUTION! This procedure involves close contact with
the planer blade. Ensure that gloves are worn at all
times to prevent injury to the hands and ensure that
the machine is disconnected from the power source.
During transit the planer knives may be knocked out
of alignment. It is important to check that the knives
are properly aligned and adjust if necessary. Now we
have set the tables it is possible to now accurately set
the knives. This is a two stage procedure. First the
knives need to be set to the block then they need fine
adjusting to the table.
4.11A Setting the planer knives 1:
This method utilises the setting gauge supplied
Place the planer knife setting gauge on the cutter-
head. The knives must project so much that they
touch the setting gauge. This check must be per-
formed on both the planer knives and at both ends
of the cutterhead Fig.4.21. If adjustment is needed
turn the 10mm headed bolts clockwise in the block
Fig.4.22.
Now tighten the jacking screws to raise the blade or
loosen them to lower it do this until the blade is accu-
rately set at both sides of the block and in the middle
