Remote handset battery replacement 1. With the aid of the end of a paper clip slide the catch to the right hand side. 2. Remove the battery holder by pushing the holder in the direction shown. 3. Remove the battery from the holder. 4. Replace the battery (CR2032 or equivalent) ensuring that the positive side of the battery faces you with the holder positioned as shown. 5. Replace the battery holder. If the remote is not to be used for an extended period of time it is recommended that the battery is removed.
Using the clock radio for the first time 1. Place your clock radio on a flat surface. 2. Fully extend the wire aerial located on the rear of your clock radio. Place the wire antenna so that it is as straight as possible extending either above or below the radio. 6 3. Insert the adaptor plug into the DC socket located on the rear of your clock radio. Plug the adaptor into a standard 13 amp mains socket outlet. The display will show 'Welcome Roberts' for a few seconds.
Switching on your clock radio Switching on - On / Off control in the Down position 1. Press and release the On / Off control to bring your radio out of standby. The On / Off control will now be in the raised position. 2. While the clock radio is in use, press and release the On / Off control. This will cause the radio to return to the standby mode and will latch the control in the down position. 1,2 Switching on - On / Off control in the Up position 1.
Operating your clock radio 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. (see page 7). When first switched on, the clock radio will be in DAB mode. After each use the clock radio will remember the mode used and then switch on in that mode the next time that it is used. 2. If the radio has been used before, the last used station will be selected. 1 3. If this is the first time that the clock radio has been used a quick scan of the Band III DAB channels will be carried out.
Selecting a station - DAB 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. 2. Press and release the Mode button until the DAB mode is selected. The display will show the name of the radio station currently selected. 1 3. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to step through the list of available stations. 4. When the desired station name appears on the display, press and release the Select button to select the station. The display will show 'Tuning' while your clock radio finds the new station.
Secondary services - DAB 1. Certain radio stations have one or more secondary services associated with them. If a station has a secondary service associated with it then the secondary service will then appear immediately after the primary service as you press the Tuning Up button. 2. To tune to the secondary service, press and release the Select button. Most secondary services do not broadcast continually and if the selected service is not available, the radio will re-tune to the associated primary service.
c. Multiplex Name Displays the name of the DAB multiplex to which the current station belongs. c d. Date Displays the current date. d e. Frequency & channel f. Bit rate & audio type g. Signal strength 11 Displays frequency and channel number for the currently tuned DAB station. Displays the digital bit rate and audio type for the currently tuned DAB station. Displays a graph showing the signal strength for the currently tuned DAB station.
Finding new stations - DAB As time passes new stations may become available. To find new stations proceed as follows. 1 1. Press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until the display shows 'Scan'. 3. Press and release the Select button. Your radio will perform a scan of the Band III DAB channels. As new stations are found, the station counter on the right-hand side of the display will increase and stations will be added to the list.
Manual tuning - DAB Manual tuning allows you to tune your clock radio to a particular DAB frequency in Band III. Any new stations found will be added to the station list. This function can also be used to assist the positioning of the aerial or the clock radio to optimise reception for a specific channel or frequency. Note that UK DAB stations are located in the range of channels 11B to 12D. 1 1. Press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until the display shows 'Manual'.
Dynamic Range Control (DRC) - DAB Dynamic range control (also known as DRC) can make quieter sounds easier to hear when your clock radio is used in a noisy environment. 2 There are three levels of compression: DRC 0 No compression applied. (default) DRC 1 Maximum compression applied. DRC 1/2 Medium compression applied. 3 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. 2. Press and release the Mode button until the DAB mode is selected. 3. Press and release the Menu button. 4.
Station order setup - DAB Your clock radio has 3 station order settings from which you can choose. The station order settings are, alphanumeric, ensemble and valid. Note: The default station order on your clock radio is alphanumeric. 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. 2 2. Press and release the Mode button until the DAB mode is selected. 3. Press and release the Menu button. 3 4. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Station Order' shows on the display.

Press and release the Mode button until the FM band is selected. 4. Repeatedly press and release the Tuning Up or Down buttons to tune to a station. The frequency will change in steps of 50kHz.
Display modes - FM Your clock radio has a range of display options for FM mode:The Radio Data System (RDS) is a system in which inaudible digital information is transmitted in addition to the normal FM radio programme. RDS offers several useful features. The following are available on your clock radio. 1 1. Press and release the Info button to cycle through the various options. a a. Scrolling text Displays scrolling text messages such as artist/track name, phone in number, etc. b.
e. Audio mode Display shows Stereo or Mono. e f. Signal strength Displays the signal strength for the currently tuned FM station. The clear unfilled rectangle indicates minimum signal level required for satisfactory reception. f Note: Your radio will display 'Radio Text' if there is no scrolling text and 'Program Type' if there is no programme type information. Presetting stations You may store your preferred DAB and FM radio stations to the preset station memories.
4. Press and release the Preset button. The display will show, for example, 'P01 Empty' if no station has been stored to that preset. 5. Use the Tuning Up or Down buttons to select the desired preset station number under which you wish to store the station. 4,6 6. Press and hold down the Preset button until the display shows, for example, 'P01 Saved'. The station will be stored under the chosen preset. Repeat this procedure for the remaining presets. 7.
Stereo / Mono setting - FM Your radio will play stereo FM broadcasts in stereo provided that the received signal is of adequate strength. However, as a stereo signal becomes weaker the audio signal will become poorer. It may be preferable to force the radio to play the station in mono in order to reduce the level of background hiss. 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your radio. 2. Tune to the required FM radio station as previously described (see pages 16, 17). 1 3.
Scan sensitivity setting - FM Your radio will normally scan for FM broadcasts which are strong enough to give good reception. However, you may wish the Auto-scan function to also be able to find weaker signals, possibly from more distant radio transmitters. Your radio includes a local / distant option for the Auto-scan function. 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. 1 2. If needed, press and release the Mode button until the FM band is selected. 3. Press and release the Menu button.
® iPod® and iPhone docking Dock connector for iPod and iPhone Your clock radio has an iPod dock facility which allows you to play digital audio files and video soundtracks held on your iPod or iPhone using the clock radio's loudspeakers. Your clock radio uses the iPod Universal Dock connector developed for use with most iPods. Some models of iPod are supplied with Universal Dock Adapter inserts which ensure correct alignment of the iPod with the electrical connector.
Navigating your iPod or iPhone Please note: Some of the iPod control functions are only available using the remote control or via the iPod's own controls. Not all iPods support remote menu navigation (for example, iPod nano® 6th generation). 1. Use the Menu button on the remote control to navigate to higher level menus on your iPod. 2,3 1 2. Use the Tuning Up or Down buttons as required to move up or down a menu screen on your iPod. 3.
Search function 1. While the iPod is playing, press and hold the Fast-forward or Rewind buttons to move through the current file or track. Release the button when the desired point in the file or track is reached. 1,2 1,2 2. Press and release either the Fast-forward or Rewind buttons to start playing the next or previous file or track. Setting alarm times Your clock radio has two alarms which can be set to wake you to DAB, FM radio, iPod item, auxiliary input or beep type alarm.
4. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to choose the desired alarm hour. Press and hold the Tuning Up or Down buttons to advance the time quickly. 5. Press and release the Select button to enter the hour setting. The alarm minute digits will flash on the display. 6. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to choose the desired alarm minute. 4-10 4-10 5-11 7. Press and release the Select button to enter the minutes setting. The alarm day option will flash on the display. 8.
12. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to choose the alarm month. 13. Press and release the Select button to enter the alarm month setting. The alarm year will flash on the display. 12-18 12-18 14. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to choose the alarm year. 15. Press and release the Select button to enter the setting. The alarm source option will flash on the display. 16. Repeatedly press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to choose the desired alarm source (Buzzer, DAB, FM, iPod or AUX IN).
Active alarms are indicated in the display by the corresponding alarm number. symbol and the Important: If using your iPod or iPhone as the source for the alarm, then be sure to dock your iPod or iPhone. If the iPod or iPhone is not detected a buzzer alarm will sound instead. When the alarm sounds The alarm will sound at the selected times for up to 60 minutes unless cancelled. The volume used for the alarm will be specified during the alarm setting procedure.
Controlling alarm status When your clock radio is in standby or when it is in use, the alarms can be controlled using the Alarm buttons. This avoids the risk of disturbance to someone who is asleep. 1,2 1. To change the states of the alarms press and hold the Alarm 1 or 2 buttons as needed. The display will cycle through alarms on or off. 2. To change the alarm settings, press and release the Alarm 1 or 2 buttons. This will cause the alarms menu to be displayed (see page 25 step 1 onwards).
Snooze function 1. When the radio, iPod, Aux in or buzzer alarm sounds, pressing the Snooze button will silence the alarm for the selected number of minutes. The Snooze duration can be adjusted between 5 and 30 minutes in 5 minute increments. The default setting is 5 minutes. 1 When the Snooze button has been pressed during an alarm, the Snooze symbol SNOOZE will flash. This sequence can be repeated during the 60 minute alarm period. 2 2. To cancel the Snooze function, press the On / Off control.
Sleep function Your clock radio can be set to turn off after a preset time has elapsed. The sleep setting can be adjusted between 5 and 90 minutes in 5 minute increments. Ensure your clock radio is switched On. 1-6 1. When using your clock radio, press the Sleep button. 'Sleep Time' appears on the display. 2. Repeatedly press the Sleep button to select the desired sleep time. The sleep setting will increase in 5 minute increments from 5 minutes up to 90 minutes.
Setting the clock format The clock display used in standby mode and when the clock radio is in use can be set to 12 or 24 hour format. The clock format may be set while the unit is in standby mode or while playing. The selected format is then also used when setting the alarms. 1 1. To set the clock format, press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Time Format' appears on the display. Press and release the Select button. 3.
Setting the clock manually Normally your clock radio will set its clock automatically using the DAB radio signal. If no DAB signal is available and you need to set the time manually, please follow the procedure shown below. The clock may be set while the unit is in standby mode or while playing. 1 1. To set the clock time, press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Time Set' appears on the display. Press and release the Select button. 3.
Setting the date manually Normally your clock radio will set its date automatically using the DAB radio signal. If no DAB signal is available and you need to set the date manually, please follow the procedure shown below. The date may be set while the unit is in standby mode or while playing. 1 1. To set the date, press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Date Set' appears on the display. 3. Press and release the Select button. The day will then flash on the display.
To return to auto clock set mode The auto clock set mode may be set while the unit is in standby or while playing. 1 1. Press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Time Set' appears on the display. Press and release the Select button. 3. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Auto Clock' appears on the display. Press and release the Select button. 4.
Equalizer function using the clock radio's buttons The sound on your clock radio can be adjusted to suit your personal taste for the material that you are listening to. The clock radio has six preset equalizer options. Alternatively, you may set the bass and treble levels to your own preferences. 2 1. Press the On / Off control to switch on your clock radio. 2. Press and release the Menu button. 3-5 3-5 3. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'EQ Set' appears on the display. 4 4.
Bass control 1. Follow steps 1-4 on the proceding page to enter the EQ setup menu. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons to cycle through the options until 'User Set' appears on the display. 3. Press and release the Select button. The current bass setting will flash on the display. 4. To adjust the Bass setting press and release the Tuning Up or Down buttons until the desired level is displayed. 5. Press and release the Select button. The current Treble setting will be shown on the display.
Equalizer function using the remote control 1. Press and release the Equalizer button to cycle through the various options. a. Normal - no tone modification is applied b. Jazz 1 c. Rock d. Pop e. Classic f. News g. Bass - tone setting may be adjusted h. Treble - tone setting may be adjusted Bass control 1. Press the Equalizer button to cycle through the options until 'User Set' appears on the display. 2. Press and release the Select button.The current Bass setting will be shown on the display. 3.
Treble control 5. To adjust the Treble setting press and release the Tuning Up or Down buttons until the desired level is displayed. After several seconds your clock radio will exit the menu. • To quickly cancel the effect of the treble or bass settings press the Equalizer button until 'Normal' appears on the display. The treble and bass settings will be remembered for the next time that you wish to adjust them.
Clock display 1. When your clock radio is in standby mode the time and date will be displayed. Display backlight dimmer The brightness of the display can be adjusted while the unit is in standby mode or while playing. 1 1. In order to adapt the intensity of the display to suit the ambient room lighting, press the Dimmer button to select the dimmer brightness from Low, Mid, High and an almost off 'night-time' setting.
Software version The software display cannot be altered and is just for your reference. 1. Press and release the Menu button. 1 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'SW Version' appears on the display. 3. Press and release the Select button to view the software information. 2 2 4. After several seconds your clock radio will exit the menu. 3 USB socket for software upgrade As software updates become available software and information on how to update your clock radio may be found at www.
System reset If your clock radio fails to operate correctly, or some digits on the display are missing or incomplete carry out the following procedure. The system reset can be carried out while the unit is in standby mode or while playing. 1 1. Press and release the Menu button. 2. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Factory Reset' appears on the display. Press and release the Select button. 3. Press the Tuning Up or Down buttons until 'Yes' appears on the display.
Headphone socket A 3.5mm stereo Headphone Socket located on the rear of your clock radio is provided for use with either headphones or an earpiece. Inserting a plug automatically mutes the internal loudspeaker. Please be aware that the sensitivity of headphones can vary widely. We therefore recommend setting the volume to a low level before connecting headphones to the clock radio. 6 IMPORTANT: Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.
Cautions Do not allow this clock radio to be exposed to water, steam or sand. Do not leave your clock radio where excessive heat could cause damage such as in a parked car where the heat from the sun can build up even though the outside temperature may not seem too high. It is recommended that the DAB band be used wherever possible as better results in terms of quality and freedom from interference will usually be obtained than on the the FM band. • The name plate is located on the underside of the unit.
