Tool Life Measurement Type
The control can measure the life of a tool using one of three possible
methods:
Tool Life Type Method Selected Meaning
0 time Thisis selected by choosing 0 as thetype of toollife
measurement.
Timemeasures toollife asthe lengthof time that a
cutting tool is operatedat a cuttingfeedrate.
The value for theexpected toollife isentered inunits of
minutes.
1 number of times
used
This isselected bychoosing 1as thetype of toollife
measurement.
Number of timesused measurestool life as the number
of times that thetool isselected asthe activetool.
The value for theexpected toollife isentered asthe
number of timesthe toolmay beused tocut parts; this
number isper program.
Regardless of thenumber of times that atool isselected
as activein aspecific program, it onlycounts asone use
each time the program is executed.
2 distance Thisis selectedby choosing2 asthe typeof tool life
measurement.
Distance measures tool lifeas thedistance that thetool
has beenmoved usinga cuttingfeedrate.
The value for theexpected toollife isentered inunits of
inches ormillimeters dependingon themode that the
control isoperating inat the time.
For multi-axismoves, the vectorialdistance traveledby
the tool is thedistance usedfor tool lifemeasurement.
Select the tool life type (selected as either 0, 1, or 2) on a per-group basis.
Different groups may use different tool life types however each tool in the
group uses the same tool life type.
