Figure 9-2: Graphical representation of pulse characteristic
Pulse characteristic Description
Pulse Width Time that the pulse remains at the top level ("ON").
This is the time between the first positive edge and
the subsequent negative edge of the pulse in sec-
onds, where the edges occur at crossings of the mid
threshold.
Pulse Period Time that is elapsing from the beginning of one
pulse to the beginning of the next pulse.
Pulse Off Time Time in the displayed trace that is not occupied by
the pulse.
Rise Time Time required for the pulse to transition from the
base to the top level.
This is the difference between the time at which the
pulse exceeds the lower and upper thresholds.
Fall Time Time required for the pulse to transition from the top
to the base level.
This is the difference between the time at which the
pulse drops below the upper and lower thresholds.
Duty Cycle Ratio of the "Pulse Width" to "Pulse Repetition Inter-
val" expressed as a percentage (requires at least
two measured pulses).
