Introduction Attaching the Straps 7. Pass the opposite end of the strap through the holder ring on the side of the jacks. 1. Remove the strap. The FR-4x comes with two shoulder straps that have Velcro fasteners on each end. 8. Place the Velcro fastener together to secure the strap. 9. Introduction 3. Connect the AC adaptor to the FR-4x’s DC IN jack. Connecting the AC Adaptor * To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections. * We recommend that you keep batteries installed in the unit even though you’ll be powering it with the AC adaptor. That way, you’ll be able to continue a performance even if the cord of the AC adaptor gets accidentally disconnected from the unit. 1.

Introduction 4. Remove the battery snap of the cord from the Installing Batteries battery holder. If you install ten AA rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries, you’ll be able to perform without connecting the AC adaptor. By using the FR-4x with its built-in speaker on battery power, you can play it like an acoustic accordion without connecting a cable. 5. Insert ten rechargeable nickel-metal hydride batteries into the battery holder.

Introduction NOTE 55 Any settings that you are in the process of editing will be lost when the power is turned off. If you have any settings that you want to keep, you should save them beforehand. 55 To restore power, turn the power on again. Turning off the power 1. Performing Adjusting the Sensitivity of the Bellows Like acoustic accordions, the FR-4x/FR-4xb produce sound when you use your left hand to open and close (expand and contract) the bellows. In general, sound is not produced unless you move the bellows. On the FR-4x/FR-4xb, you can adjust the sensitivity of the bellows to your preference.

Performing Selecting an Accordion Set The right-hand (treble) provides 14 registers for each accordion set. When you switch the accordion set, the sounds of the right-hand keyboard and left-hand button keyboard will all change. If we use the analogy of an acoustic accordion, this is like switching to a different accordion. Go ahead and compare different accordion sets to find your favorites. Register buttons [A/B] button 1. The two rows of buttons enclosed by gray shading play bass, and the remaining buttons play chords. Bass rows Chord rows Some of the bass rows have reference caps with concave tops to help you determine the position of the bass and chord rows without looking at them.

Playing Non-Accordion Sounds In addition to accordion sounds, the FR-4x/FR-4xb contain orchestral sounds such as trombone, flute, and piano, as well as organ sounds. Selecting an Orchestral Sound for the Right-Hand Keyboard 1. Press the [ORCHESTRA] button. Selecting an Orchestral Sound Not Assigned to a Register Button The FR-4x/FR-4xb contain more than 150 orchestral sounds. To select an orchestral sound that’s not assigned to a register button, proceed as follows.

Press the [ORCH CHRD/F.BASS] button. An “o” is shown in the display at the position marked in the illustration, indicating that an orchestral sound is selected for the left-hand chord rows.

Saving and Recalling Favorite Sounds and Settings (User Programs) On the FR-4x/FR-4xb you can save your favorite sounds and settings, and recall them instantly. The saved data is called a “user program.” This is convenient when you want to quickly switch between favorite sounds during a live performance. The FR-4x can store up to 98 user programs. Use the cursor [K] [J] buttons and VALUE [-] [+] buttons to enter a name. 6.

Using the USB Audio Player You can play back audio files from a USB flash drive (sold separately). In advance, use your computer to save the audio files that you want to play on the USB flash drive. 2. Press the [SONG LIST] button. By using this function, you can perform while playing back a song. Getting Ready to Use the FR-4x as an Audio Player The display shows the contents of the USB flash drive. 1. Using your computer, copy the audio song to your USB flash drive (sold separately).

Appendix Panel Descriptions The sections of your FR-4x Left-hand keyboard section Bellows This section normally plays accompaniment parts. The left-hand button keyboard has two modes. In Bass and Chord mode, two or three rows of buttons play bass and the remaining buttons play chords. Righthand keyboard section In Free Bass mode, two rows of buttons play bass and the remaining buttons play melody using the Free Bass button layout. The left-hand button keyboard is velocity-sensitive.

Appendix Left-hand button keyboard section 21 22 21 Left-hand register buttons 23 23 Bellows resistance regulator and air button Select the register that is played by the left-hand keyboard. 22 Left-hand button keyboard These 120 buttons are used to play bass notes and chords (they are velocity-sensitive). They also allow you to play drum sounds. The bellows resistance regulator allows you to specify the bellows’ inertia (the force needed to push and pull it).

USING THE UNIT SAFELY WARNING WARNING Concerning the Auto Off function Use only the supplied power cord Keep small items out of the reach of children The power to this unit will be turned off automatically after a predetermined amount of time has passed since it was last used for playing music, or its buttons or controls were operated (Auto Off function). If you do not want the power to be turned off automatically, disengage the Auto Off function (p. 5). Use only the attached power cord.
