Next,lubricatethevalvesando‐ringssincetheymayneedtobe
flexible.Fillyourpumpbasketwithwaterfromyourhose.Replacethe
lidonyourpumpverytightly.Lookforleaksthatmaybecomingout,
andre‐checkthatallofthevalvesandpressurereliefopenings
are
openandreadytogo(downpositionforDEfilters,upforsandfilters,
andfilterformultiportvalves).
Turnonyourpumpandwatchthepressuregaugeverycloselywhile
yourhandisstillonthepowerswitch.Ifthepressurerisesabove
normalrange(usually30pse),
turnthepumpoff.Ifthepressuredoes
risetoomuch,re‐checkallofthereturnsidevalvesandtryagain.Ifthe
pumpstilldoesn’twork,don’tletitrunformorethanoneminute.Try
closingthemaindrainvalveandstartofftheskimmeralone.Ifthe
pumpstillwon’tcatchafterturningitonagain,tryuptofivetimesto
seeifitcatches.Ifthepumpstillwon’twork,youmayneedtolookat
yourincomingpipesforairleaks.
Note:You’llneedtoaddnewDEtoyourDEfiltereveryseason,
preferablywithintwominutesofstartingthefilteragainfortheyear.If
youhaveacartridgefiltersystem,replacethecartridgeeverytwo
years,andsandfiltersneedthesandchangedeveryfiveyears.
Onceyoursystemisgoing,adjustanyvalvesandreturnfittingsto
maintainproperflowof
water.Lookforleaksaroundthepumpand
filterandrepairthemquicklyasneeded.
Checkyourstart‐uppressureonthefilter’sgauge.Whenthepse
reaches10poundsabovethestart‐uppressure,backwashthefilterand
emptythepumpbasket.Or,ifyounoticeadropin
filterpressure
beforeitrisesto10poundsmorethanwhenyoustarted,backwashthe
filterthem.
