About
the

This chart is comprised of three color choices. Standard colors
consist of the colors most
commonly
requested by customers.
Some
of the standard colors are excellent matches for
comme

to the most popular bath fixtures.
The Optional

Tips
Runtal
White: Although Runtal offers a wide
assortme
nt of colors
which can be usedto match, accent, or compliment any
decor, the
most
common
radiator color is white. This is primarily dueto the
ease
with which white maybe integrated into any color scheme-
the one you have today andthe oneyou might have tomorrow.
To
Blend or to Showcase:
Runta
l
Rad
iators may be used either as
a design focal point bychoosing a bright or contrasting paint
finish or they may be blendedinto a
decor by choosing a more
muted color or onewhich more closely matchesthe background
of the space.
Colo
r selection should perhaps begin with a
decision on how
mu
ch of an impact you would like the radiators to
make.
Environmental
Fa
ctors: When choosing colors for radiators it is
often helpful to consider several
environm
entalfactors.
Fo
r
example
, colors mayappear considerably different when e
xposed
to natural (sun)vs incandescent vs fluorescent lighting. Thus,it
maybe helpful to view this color selection guide under the same
lighting conditions which predominate in the space where the
radiators areto be installed.
Repainting: Hot water
Ru

Rad
iators may be repainted.
Ru
ntal
reco
mmen
ds either an acrylic or a polyester paint be used over
Runtal's original finish and one must be sure to properly prepare
the radiator surface for maximumadhesion. Proper preparation
shouldinclude, but maynot be limited to a very light sanding and
thorough cleaning. Any chips
should
be "feathered" at the edges
to makeas smooth a base as possible and any ex
posed
bare
metal should be spot primed prior to top coating.

Hiding the Pipes: While
Runtal
offers a complete line of
decorative andfunctional pipe covers for hot water radiator
installations,
ma
ny peoplefind it more attractive and less
expensive
to simplypaint the connecting pipes. When painting
the pipes,
Runtal
recom
mends
that you consider painting the
pipes the s
ame
color as the background (wall,
basebo
ard molding,
etc.) as the pipeswill often disappearbetter with the background
color rather than the radiator color.
Painting behind a hydronic radiator:
Repa
inting a radiator and
painting
around
and
behind
a radiator is considerably easier if the
radiator is originally installedwith radiator shutoff valves. Such
valvesallow an individual radiator to be isolated fromthe central
heating
system
, drained of water individually and u
nhung
from the
wall brac
kets.
