.DESCRIPTION AND USES .
Rust-Oleum
®
Rust Reformer is a water-based film forming
product that chemically converts rust into a smooth,
paintable surface, so there is no need to sand to bare
metal. Products are available in both spray and brush for
flexibility in application.

PAINTING CONDITIONS
Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area such as an open
garage. Apply when temperature is between 50-90°F (10-
32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying.
Do not apply to surfaces, when heated, exceed 200°F
(93°C). Do not apply to galvanized steel. Avoid spraying in
very windy and dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area
to protect from spray mist.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Do not use on non-rusted surfaces. Remove all dirt,
grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing
the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable
cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to
thoroughly dry. Scrape and wire brush or power tool clean
to remove loose rust, scale, and deteriorated coatings.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from
any surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS
TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE
SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE;
ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. For additional

PRODUCT APPLICATION .
APPLICATION
Stir contents before using. Pour a small amount of Rust
Reformer into a separate non-metallic container. Brush the
material evenly across the surface to be coated. The Rust
Reformer will dry to a black film in about 15 minutes. Do
not return any unused Rust Reformer to the original
container. Doing so will contaminate the remaining
material and reduce or eliminate its effectiveness.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F and 50% relative
humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to
the touch in 20-40 minutes, to handle in 1 hour and can be
topcoated in 3 hours with an oil-based paint. Allow 3 days
before top coating with a lacquer or aerosol.
CLEAN-UP
Spills should be cleaned up immediately with water. Clean
brushes and tools with soap and water.
