.DESCRIPTION AND USES .
Rust-Oleum
®
Hammered Finish creates a distinctive look that
hides flaws and imperfections found on scratched, rusted or
pitted metals. Hammered Finish can be applied directly to metal
surfaces and also bonds to plastic. Hammered Finish resists
heat to 250°F (121°C). Not for use on galvanized steel.

..PRODUCT APPLICATION .
PAINTING CONDITIONS
Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area such as an open
garage. Use when temperature is between 50-90°F (10-
32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying.
Do not apply to galvanized metal. Avoid spraying in very
windy and dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to
protect from spray mist.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Wash the surface with a commercial detergent, or other
suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and dry
with a clean cloth. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire
brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces.
WARNING: If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may
release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD
DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN
DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved
respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a
HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to

www.eps.gov/lead.
PRIMING
Use of a Rust-Oleum primer provides added corrosion
protection, enhances adhesion and hiding, and is
especially recommended for metal surfaces.
Recommended primers include 249331 Rusty Metal
Primer, 249319 Clean Metal Primer, and 249279 Filler
Primer.

APPLICATION
Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball
begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT
STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during
use. Hold can 10-12" from surface and spray in a steady
back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke.
Keep the can the same distance from the surface and in
motion while spraying. Apply 2 or more medium coats
applied at a moderate speed. Make sure all corners,
edges and heavily pitted areas where moisture can
penetrate are adequately covered. Do not use near open
flame.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50%
relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures.
Dries to the touch in 15 minutes, to handle in 90 minutes
and is fully dry in 48 hours. Primers can be top coated
immediately. Apply a second coat within 1 hour or after 48
hours. Two coats may be needed to eliminate pinholes
and thin spots.
CLEAN-UP
Wipe off tip when finished. Clean up wet paint with xylene
or mineral spirits. Properly discard empty container. Do
not burn or place in home trash compactor.
CLOGGING
If the valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse in a
solvent such as mineral spirits. Do not insert any object
into can valve opening.
