OKON W-2
WATER REPELLENT SEALER FOR POROUS CONCRETE AND MASONRY
MASONRY
Form: JPB-04
Rev.: 051713
1
.DESCRIPTION AND USES .
OKON W-2 Water Repellent Sealer is a proprietary blend
of acrylic micro emulsions and a silane-siloxane solution.
The micro-emulsions penetrate the surface to establish a
water repelling barrier in the subsurface of the concrete
and masonry. OKON W-2 helps protect porous concrete
and masonry medium and normal weight block, rough
stucco, non-glazed concrete brick and nonglazed slump
block and other comparably porous materials from the
damaging effects of water absorption efflorescence,
freeze-thaw damage, dusting and staining. Its unique
blend of acrylic microemulsion, a proprietary water
repellent and silane/siloxane penetrates and protects the
substrate while being highly permeable to water vapor.
OKON W-2 is recommended for porous surfaces including
Medium weight CMU, Normal weight CMU, Rough stucco,
Porous plaster, Blasted concrete, Concrete brick.

.PRODUCT APPLICATION .
SURFACE PREPARATION
OKON W-2 can be applied to most porous concrete
surfaces that are unsealed, clean (free of dirt, waxes and
oils) and sound. New concrete must be cured for 28 days
prior to coating. Unsealed: W-2 must be able to penetrate
the surface. Test the openness of the substrate by
sprinkling with water. If the surface turns dark with the
water W-2 can be applied.
Clean: Clean surface using oil-free, compressed air to
remove loose and foreign matter that could interfere with
application or performance of coating. pressure washing to
remove dust, sand or other foreign matter. Allow pressure
washed surfaces to dry three days prior to coating.
Remove exterior mildew with JOMAX® or equivalent.
Remove efflorescence with sulfamic or dilute muriatic acid.
Spot cleaning with acid may cause uneven porosity and
blotchy appearance. Surface can be slightly damp at time
of application

Sound: Surface of concrete and mortar joints must be hard
and firm - not loose or sandy. The surface is un-sound if it
can be scraped or gouged with a flat screw driver.
Unsound mortar or deteriorated concrete should be
removed and repaired prior to coating. Cracks and joints
must be sealed with flexible sealant. Parapet walls must
be capped and backside sealed with a waterproofing
membrane. Protect adjacent and underlying surfaces from
over spray and rundown. Concrete and mortar joints must

COVERAGE
The spread-rate of OKON W-2 will vary with the porosity
and texture of the surface. The application rates provided
below are for estimating purposes only. A test area must
be applied to establish actual spread rate for each surface.
After application water should bead and sheet off surface.
If not, apply an additional coat. OKON W-2 can be
recoated after the initial coat is dry, clear and colorless.
APPLICATION
OKON W-2 is ready-to-use, no thinning is required.
Surface can be slightly damp, but not wet at time of
application. In hot weather, where possible, lightly spray
surface with water to cool the surface to prevent flash
drying. It can be applied by garden-type sprayer but is
best applied by low-pressure airless spray. Use a small to
medium size airless pump (1/3 2/3 gpm) at set a low
pressure (500 psi) and a 0.025-0.031” tip. Hold spray tip
12-18 inches from the surface. (Warranty jobs require
airless spray application.) Start at the top of the wall and
work down with an overlapping horizontal spray pattern.
Make multiple application passes at the top of the wall to
insure run down of 3 5 inches down the wall. Take
special care to saturate mortar joints. Donot stop or
interrupt the application in the middle of the wall. Stop
application only at expansion joints, walls or breaks
defined with masking tape. Back rolling is recommended
to prevent streaking on more dense substrates. W-2
appears milky-white when applied but dries clear. Material
that is not absorbed should be back rolled or brushed out
to avoid build up. Do not allow puddles, drips or runs to
dry on the surface. W-2 may slightly darken the surface
and add a slight sheen.
