Stops Rust
®
Oil-based Door Paint is designed
to
provide excellent color retention, chip resistance, and
protection on exterior and interior door surfaces. Door Paint
is
ideal for use on metal, wood, and fiberglass doors. Not for use
of galvanized steel.

PAINTING CONDITIONS
Apply only when air and surface temperatures are above 50ºF
(10ºC) and humidity is below 85% to ensure proper drying. Do
not apply to surfaces that will exceed 200ºF (93ºC). Do not
use
on galvanized steel.

FOR NEW PRE-PRIMED STEEL OR
WOOD DOORS: Remove
all
dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the
surface with a commercial detergent or other suitable
c
leaning
method. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow to
fully
dry. All surfaces must be dry at time of
a
pplication.
PREVIOUSLY COATED: Remove loose paint and rust with
a
wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. Clean
with soap and water, rinse and let dry. The Stops

Paint is compatible with most coatings, but a test patch
is
suggested. WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old
paint
from any surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD
IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE.

up
carefully with
a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you
start,

APPLICATION
Before using, stir thoroughly to ensure any settled pigment
is
re-dispersed. If necessary, thin the material with xylene. Thin
no
more than 5% by volume. Use a 6½ shed-resistant roller
with
a 3/8 nap or a high quality brush with flagged (split) ends.
F
or
optimal results, use the roller to paint the entire door or paint the
recessed edges of raised panels and then use the roller for the
remaining flat surfaces.
One coat may be enough to fully cover both sides of the
door
.
For new and existing doors, we recommend painting the door
off
the frame to allow the paint to dry completely before hanging. If
painting a hanging door, do not close the door until the paint
is
fully dry to prevent
it
from sticking to the door
frame.
DRY AND RECOAT
TIMES
Dry and recoat times are based on 70ºF (21°C) and 50% rela
tive
humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to
touch
in 1-2 hours, dries to handle in 4-6 hours, and can be
recoated
within 1 hour or after 24 hours, and is fully dry in 24 hours.
CLEAN-UP
Clean brush and other tools with lacquer thinner or
xylene.
