GAP (Generic Access Profile) is a standard that defines the interface
between the base and handsets. It allows handsets from various
manufacturers to be operated with the same base and calls to be dialled
on the line connected to the base. Users using different handsets can thus
talk to each other (“intercom” function). Likewise, a single handset can
work with several bases.
It should be noted that only the basic functions (dial tone, dialling and
receiving calls) are included in the GAP standard. When a handset and a
base of different makes are matched, some advanced features may not
work (call identification or shared address book, SMS).
