In Edit Mode, you can adjust the keyboard’s parameters (see p.14 for more information). 5. iPad Holder - Place an Apple iPad horizontally in this slot. Use the included rubber shoes to securely hold your iPad in place (see p.11 for more information). 6.
Rear Panel Controls and Functions 4 3 2 1 1. POWER Switch - Slide this switch to turn the keyboard on and off. 2. USB Connection - Connect a standard USB cable from this port to the USB connection on a computer or iPad to provide power to the keyboard, as well as to send and receive MIDI data. 3. MIDI OUT - Use a 5-pin MIDI cable to connect the Carbon 49 to an external MIDI device. 4. SUSTAIN Pedal Input - Connect a ¼” sustain or expression pedal to this input.
Carbon 49 · USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller Quick Start Connect the Carbon 49 to your computer or iPad using the supplied USB cable. The unit will receive power and transmit MIDI data via the USB connection. Slide the POWER switch to the left to turn on the keyboard. 2. Launch your DAW or virtual instrument software, and set the Carbon 49 as the MIDI Input device. 3.
Basic Operation Modes The Carbon 49 has two operation modes: Performance Mode and Edit Mode. Performance Mode - In this mode, the 49 velocity-sensitive keys transmit note and velocity information via the USB or MIDI output. The assignable controllers, pitch bend and modulation wheels all transmit continuous controller information. Edit Mode - In this mode, use the first 25 keys on the keyboard to access functions and enter numerals 0-9. The rest of the keyboard will transmit note and velocity information.
Carbon 49 · USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller Basic Operation VOLUME Fader The VOLUME fader sends MIDI information to control the performance of the device that is connected to the keyboard. The factory setting is channel volume, but can be assigned to another parameter in Edit Mode. Refer to the section Edit Mode (p.14) for details. ENGLISH DATA Knob The DATA knob sends MIDI information to control the performance of the device that is connected to the keyboard.
Edit Mode Edit Mode is where you can access and adjust the parameters of the Carbon 49 to suit your needs. To access Edit Mode, press the EDIT button on the top panel of the keyboard. The button will light red, and the display will read “Set” to indicate that you are in Edit Mode. In Edit Mode, the first 25 keys on the keyboard become function and numerical keys, and will not transmit any note data.

Edit Mode ASSIGN TRANS Press the ASSIGN TRANS key to change the function that the TRANSPOSE “+” and “-” buttons control. There are three parameters that can be assigned: 1 - Transpose 2 - Program Change 3 - MIDI Channel When pressed, the current function number will flash on the display. Rotate the DATA knob, or enter the control code using the numerical keys. Press the ENTER key to confirm the selection.
Carbon 49 · USB/MIDI Keyboard Controller Edit Mode ASSIGN PEDAL Press the ASSIGN PEDAL function key to adjust the controller number assigned to the SUSTAIN PEDAL input. The default setting is CC #64. When pressed, the current controller number will flash on the display. Rotate the DATA knob, or enter the controller number (0–148) using the numerical keys. Refer to the MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) List on p.18 for a list of codes and their corresponding functions.

Installation Read Before Installing 2 Installation 2.1 Read Before Installing 2.2 Installing on Mac OS X Before starting the KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 installation process, here are some points to be aware of: ▪ Make sure to keep the KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 installation DVD / download file(s) in a safe place for future reference, for example in case you need to install KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 on a new computer.

Locate the Komplete Elements Mk2 Installer Mac.mpkg file on the DVD and double-click it in order to start the installation procedure. Follow the on-screen instructions. 2.2.2 Select the Components to Install The components available for installation appear grouped under the themes Applications, Content, and Plug-In Types.
Installation Installing on Mac OS X In case the KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 installer detects an application version which is newer than the version provided in KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2, it will bring up a warning message and deselect those applications in the component tree. This is to avoid a downgrade for those applications. We recommend to keep all other components selected unless you have a specific reason to do otherwise.

Once the KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 installation DVD icon is visible in Windows Explorer, double-click it to reveal the content of the DVD. Locate the Komplete Elements Mk2 Setup PC.exe file on the DVD and double-click it to start the installation procedure. Follow the on-screen instructions. Download Version 1. 2. 3.

We recommend keeping all features selected. VST is used by many sequencers like Cubase, Sonar or Live, while RTAS is the native plug-in format for Pro Tools.

You can specify the library path in an upcoming installer screen. 2.3.4 Define an Installation Path for VST Plug-ins If you have chosen to install VST plug-ins, this screen allows defining a VST plug-in path on your computer. You can define a single path when running a 32-bit version of Windows.

Service Center confirms that the product has been activated successfully. A search for updates will start automatically. ▪ If updates for any of the activated products are available, the button in the bottom right corner of the screen reads Update. To download the updates, click the Update button and proceed with section ↑3.2, Updating Your Product.

In Service Center, click the Update tab to view a list of available updates. Select the updates you want to download by checking the checkboxes on the left. We recommend downloading all preselected updates. Click Download. The download will start.

After all files have been downloaded successfully, you will be asked to open the download folder. ► Click Yes to open the download folder. ► After the download folder has opened, you can quit Service Center by clicking Exit. 3.2.4 1. 2. Install the Updates Launch the first installer file from the download folder.

Click Create to save the Activation Request File (ActivationRequestFile.html). A Save File dialog will open and let you select a target folder. Save the Activation Request File to the desired target folder.

Copy the Activation Request file to a portable storage device and transfer it to a computer with internet connection. Open the Activation Request file by double-clicking it. Follow the instructions on the Service Center product activation web page. As a new Native Instruments user you will need to create a new account before you can log in.

On your audio computer, start Service Center again. In the Continue without connection to the internet area at the bottom of the screen, click Offline. Select the Activate page and click Open to load the Activation Return file.

After you have opened the Activation Return File, Service Center confirms that the product has been activated successfully. Stand-alone Operation Selecting an Audio Interface 4 Stand-alone Operation Once the installation process has finished, you will find the installation folders of the KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 applications on your hard disk. Each application (e.g. KONTAKT 5, GUITAR RIG 5, etc.) has its own installation folder containing the application and the documentation resources within the Native Instruments folder in your Applications (Mac OS X) or Program Files (Windows) folder.
Stand-alone Operation Optimizing Latency ◦ ASIO: Recommended audio driver format for Windows. Designed for real-time audio applications and fast performance. This type of driver is typically installed with professional grade audio interfaces. ◦ WASAPI: Current Windows audio driver standard format for Windows 7 and Vista. Performance depends on audio hardware and driver quality, which ranges from fast to poor.
Stand-alone Operation Routing Audio Input and Output 4.3 Routing Audio Input and Output On the Routing page of the Audio and MIDI Settings dialog you can map the audio outputs of the software to the physical outputs of your audio interface. If your software shows an output level on the user interface, but you cannot hear any output from your audio interface, check on the Routing page to see if the right physical outputs have been assigned.
Stand-alone Operation Setting up MIDI Connections 4.4 Setting up MIDI Connections The MIDI page of the Audio and MIDI Settings dialog provides a list of all MIDI inputs and outputs available on your system. These are ports of physical MIDI interfaces connected to your computer, but also any virtual MIDI ports that may be provided by drivers or other applications to facilitate inter-application MIDI usage.
Plug-in Operation 5 Plug-in Operation All applications contained in KOMPLETE ELEMENTS MK2 are also available as VST (Virtual Studio Technology), AU (Audio Units), and RTAS (Real-Time Audio Suite) plug-ins. Refer to the documentation of your host software to find out which plug-in formats are compatible with your particular program, and for instructions on how to load virtual instruments or effect plug-ins.

If you want to transfer songs made with the older version to the new version, you will need to do this manually.

GENERAL The following information represents the contractual conditions for the use of software and hardware manufactured by NATIVE INSTRUMENTS GmbH (hereinafter ,Native Instruments") by you, the final user (hereinafter ,Licensee"). The Native Instruments activation uses information about essential system components of your computer, and encodes this information in the "Activation Request File". This information does not include any personal data. The "Activation Request File" is used to create an activation key, which works only on the computer where the "Activation Request File" has been generated.

Native Instruments legal liability for programming errors in the Licensed Software , or errors in the Licensed Hardware including later updates, is therefore restricted to any case of Native Instruments acting with intent or gross negligence. Native Instruments ensures Licensee that at the point in time when the contract is concluded, the Licensed Software and Hardware will be free of all material and technical defects under normal operating conditions.

The provided samples, instruments and presets can be used for commercial or non-commercial music and audio productions without the prior permission from Native Instruments under the terms of this Agreement.
