6.8.3.Mitigationofrisksduetoexcessivejointanglemovement
TheGEMS‐Hjointshavemechanicalstopperstorestrictover‐extensionofjoints,aswellassoftwarelimitsonjoint
movement.Themechanicalstoppersaredesignedtoensurethatthehipjointsstaywithinthespecifiedrangeeven
inthecaseofamalfunctioningdevice.Themechanicalstoppersaresettoamaximumof110degreesforflexionand
amaximumof45degreesforextension.Thedelayedoutputcontroller(software)islimitedtoamaximumof100
degreesforflexionandamaximumof40degreesforextensioninnormaluse.
Statusofthedeviceandrecommendeduseraction:
Whenthejointanglereachesthejointanglelimit,thedevicealertsthephysicaltherapistbydisplayingawarning
message of “EXCEED JOINT LIMIT”. When the joint angle reaches these joint limits, the device ceases applying
assistive force. Thereafter,the physical therapist mayreset the device byaskingthepatientto stand with upright
postureandtappingthe“SetStandPose”buttononthetabletPC.Pressingthe“START”buttonwillthencausethe
devicetostartprovidingassistiveforceagain.
