Getting started Buttons Button Function • Press and hold to turn the device on. • Press and hold until the device turns off if it freezes. Power Start • Press to lock or unlock the device. The device goes into lock mode when the touch screen turns off. • Press to return to the Start screen. • Press to adjust the device volume.
Getting started Charging the battery Before using the device for the first time or when the battery has been unused for extended periods, you must charge the battery. Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables. Unapproved chargers or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the device. Plug the small end of the charger into the DC jack of the device, and plug the large end of the charger into an electric socket.
Getting started After fully charging, disconnect the device from the charger. First unplug the charger from the device, and then unplug it from the electric socket. To save energy, unplug the charger when not in use. The charger does not have a power switch, so you must unplug the charger from the electric socket when not in use to avoid wasting power. The device should remain close to the electric socket while charging.
Getting started Turning the device on and off When turning on the device for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions to set up your device. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds to turn on the device. To turn off the device, open the Charms bar by flicking left from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Settings → Power → Shut down.
Basics Charms bar Open the Charms bar to use basic functions, such as searching, sharing, and settings. While the Charms bar appears on the right side of the screen, the notification panel appears on the left side, displaying current time and date, Internet connection status, and battery power level. To open the Charms bar, flick left from the right edge of the screen. To close the Charms bar, tap the screen.
Basics Managing contacts Manage contacts, including phone numbers, email addresses, and others. You can group contacts to make them easier to search for and send contacts to others or share them. Using applications The Applications screen displays icons for all applications, including any new applications installed. You cannot install Windows desktop applications on this device. Open the Applications screen and select an application icon to open it. Drag down the screen to close an application.
Basics Connecting to the Internet Connect to the Internet by using the Wi-Fi feature. Open the Internet application and browse webpages. You may incur additional charges for accessing the Internet and downloading media files. For details, contact your service provider.
