The SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in Admin Guide is intended to be used to install and setup the SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in on a network server and client systems. To assist you in acclimating to the SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map environment, this guide provides instructional screen images, situational examples, easy-to-read tables of features, and step-by-step instructions.

Benefits of using the SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in With the SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in, you can organize your devices based on location. For example, if devices are spread out between the 35th and 36th floors, you can create maps of the two floors showing where each device is located. After configuring the maps, you can find the devices' locations on the maps. It will be much easier to check devices’ location using a map.
Tips for using SyncThru™ Admin 5 Layout related tips Drag-and-drop SyncThru™ Admin 5 provides drag-and-drop functionality. When you want to add a device(s) to a group, you can select the device(s) you want and drag and drop it into a specific group. Drag-and-drop functionality allows you to copy multiple devices easily. It also shows warning icons where devices cannot be added. Page navigation SyncThru™ Admin 5 has a convenient and easy-to-use page and panel navigation system.
System related tips Starting and stopping SyncThru™ Admin 5 service SyncThru™ Admin 5 starts automatically every time the computer you installed SyncThru™ Admin 5 onto boots up. If you want to stop and start SyncThru™ Admin 5 manually, follow the steps below: If the database is PostgreSQL, then there will be one more service (SyncThru 5 Database) needs to stop/start. To stop SyncThru™ Admin 5 1. From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services. 2. Select SyncThru 5.
Getting started 2. This chapter gives you instructions for installing SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in.
Quick start 3. This chapter explains a quick way to start map configuration. If you are familiar with the Device Map Plug-in, you can skip the detailed information and begin map configuration with this chapter. Configuring maps 4. To use SyncThru™ Admin 5 Device Map Plug-in, you need to configure maps with the location information of your devices. This chapter gives you step-by-step instructions for configuring maps. If you don’t want detailed information, go to the Quick start chapter (See "Quick start" on page 12). This chapter includes: • • • Creating Place and Subplace Registering floor layout images Arranging devices on the map Creating Place and Subplace A map is created with Subplaces.
Registering floor layout images After creating Subplaces, you need to configure floor layout images for them. 1. From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click the Devices menu > Map > Map Settings. 2. Click the Map Settings button in the upper right. The Map Manager window appears. 3. Select the Place then the Subplace for which you want to register a floor layout image. 4. Click the Choose Floor Layout Image button on the bottom right. The Choose Map Floor Layout Image for “ Subplace” window appears. 5.
Viewing a map 5. This chapter explains ways to view a map. There are two ways to view maps: 1) by viewing the location of a specific device and 2) by viewing a map with place information. This chapter includes: • • • Overview Viewing the location of a specific device Viewing map with place information Overview After map configuration is completed, you can use the maps to search where devices are located. SyncThru™ Admin 5 provides a Device Information panel under the History tab and the Group/List menu.
Viewing the location of a specific device 1. From SyncThru™ Admin 5, click the Devices menu > Group/List. Or from the Devices menu, you could go to one of the History tab menus: Configuration History, Firmware Upgrade History or File Storage History. 2. From the Devices List, click the device for which you want to find the location. You can select multiple devices at once by holding down the Ctrl or Shift key. 3. You can see the Map button in the Device information panel on the right. Click the Map button.
Printing the map 6. You can also print the maps you created in SyncThru™ Admin 5. If there are devices with critical errors, you may need to go to the device to check the status. In this case, you can print the related map and easily go to the device. For example, if you see a device with errors from the Device List, you can get the location information with the Map button on the Device Information panel.
Usage examples 7. This chapter gives you examples to make full use of the Device Map Plug-in. This chapter includes: • • Monitoring devices Finding a specific device’s location Monitoring devices If you are an administrator for particular devices, you can create a map for the devices under your management. Then you can monitor the devices with the map along with the Device List or the Dashboard.
Related features 8. SyncThru™ Admin 5 provides additional settings for the map function. If you install the Device Map Plug-in, you can see new settings within SyncThru™ Admin 5. How many devices and door marks can be added on a map? What kinds of file formats can I upload as a floor layout image? Can I upload a large image? Image size is not restricted, but it will be automatically scaled to 400x400 pixels. All the maps you create will have this fixed size.
