TV GUIDE On Screen System Step 1: Introduction To the TV Guide On Screen System This DVD Recorder features the TV Guide On Screen system that provides an 8-day rolling list of TV programs available in your area. Use the TV Guide On Screen system to choose TV programs and simplify the recording of your favorite TV shows.
2. Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys on the remote, select the country you live in and press the “ENTER” key to continue. 3. Using either the numeric keypad or the UP/DOWN arrow keys on the remote, enter your zip code. Press the “ENTER” key to continue.
4. If you receive TV programming via cable TV, select, “Yes” using the UP/DOWN arrow keys on the remote and press “ENTER.” If you use a roof top antenna, select “No”, press the “ENTER” key and proceed to Step 11. 5. If your local cable company requires you to use a cable box select “Yes” using the UP/ DOWN arrow keys, press “ENTER” and proceed to the next step. If you are not required to use a cable box, select “No” then press “ENTER” and proceed to Step 11. 6.
7. Using the UP/DOWN arrow keys please select the channel your cable box outputs a signal on. If your cable box offers Audio/Video outputs select “Video 1”for optimum video quality. For cable boxes without Audio/Video outputs, select the appropriate channel to receive the cable box signal. Press the “ENTER” key to proceed. 8. Verify that the IR Blaster is connected and positioned properly. This device allows your DVD Recorder to communicate with your cable box.
9. Select the brand of cable box you have, and press “ENTER.”. 10. We’ll now begin trying various IR codes to see which one communicates properly with your cable box. It’s quite common that this phase of the setup may have to be repeated numerous times. Once your cable box properly responds to the DVD Recorder, select “Yes” using the UP/DOWN arrow keys and press “ENTER.” 11. The confirmation screen should now be displaying all of the setting made.
12. Once at least 24 hours has passed since the setup information was entered, you're ready to perform the final step of the installation procedure. When the unit is powered up you'll see a screen asking you to select the proper channel line-up. A channel line-up is the numerical designations for each station your cable company caries. In most cases you'll have at least two choices, though it's not uncommon for larger cities to offer several. It's important to realize that only one will be correct.
• • The TV Guide On Screen system was designed such that all TV viewing would be done using your DVD Recorder to select the channels. When a cable box is used, and the DVD Recorder is placed in the standby mode, the DVD Recorder will cause the cable box to automatically scan channels to search for program data. In this situation, if the cable box were also connected directly to the TV, it would be impossible to view one channel continuously.
LISTINGS MODE • The [LISTINGS] mode is the first screen displayed when the “Guide” button on the remote is pressed. This mode displays the Station, Title, Time, Length and contents and ratings. It allows the user to scroll through current and future program listings. 1. Use the UP/DOWN to select the channel. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT arrow keys, to scroll from present to future program listings. LISTINGS MODE Record Feature: This feature is located on the Action Bar of the Menu.
2. Press the DOWN button then use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow buttons to select RECORD. 3. Press the Green button on the remote to set the Timer. 4. Use the remote and follow the on-screen prompt to input the Date, Start Time, End Time and Channel of the program to be recorded. LISTINGS MODE “Favorites Feature:” “Favorites” feature allows the user to select programs and acts as a viewing reminder. This feature will not record the program.
SORT MODE • The [SORT] mode provides the user with the ability to preview program listings for various categories, such as movies, sports, children’s, educational, news, variety, series and alphabetically for up to 8 days. Each category will contain individual sub-categories. 1. From Main Menu, use the LEFT/RIGHT buttons on the Remote to select [SORT] 2. Press the DOWN arrow key to move into the Main Category section. 3. Select the desired category by using the LEFT/RIGHT buttons on the remote. 4.
• The [SCHEDULE] mode contains the list of programs designated for FAVORITES/RECORD. FAVORITES and RECORD timers are displayed on separate lists. In addition to reviewing the list, the user may also remove the shows, change the frequency or modify the start/end times (only when recording) of the shows selected. To DELETE a scheduled program: 1. From the Main Menu Bar use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys on the remote to select [SCHEDULE]. 2. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to highlight and select the program. 3.
PROMOTIONS MODE • The [PROMOTIONS] mode provides the user with a list of promotional items that have appeared as Panel Ads or Channel banners during the current day. The list also displays the TV Guide On Screen “FEATURES” and “USING…” panels displayed prior to initial listings download. Promotions are updated daily during pre-designated download times. 1. From the Main Menu Bar use the LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys on the remote to select [PROMOTIONS]. 2. Press the DOWN arrow key to move into the Feature Menu.
CHANGE CHANNEL DISPLAY MODE • The [Change Channel Display] mode allows the user to customize the list of channels displayed on-screen by turning the channels ON or OFF. Additionally, the user has the option of changing the assigned channel to a different position on the LISTINGS grid. The user may make immediate channel line-up changes should the cable company periodically revise its channel assignments. To access the Change Channel Display feature: 1.
Note: If the Cancel button on the Action Bar is selected, it will reverse all channel number and ON/OFF changes made during the prior session. Channels that were recently turned on, will display “No Listing” until the next data download occurs. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Initial Setup 1. Does the TV Guide On Screen system work with analog and digital cable boxes? Answer: Yes. The TV Guide On Screen system works with both analog and digital cable boxes. 2.
Answer: Refer to the TV Guide On Screen section of the owner’s manualor follow the on-screen setup diagram or your TV owner’s manual. 11. Q: I’ve entered the setup data. When will I be able to view my TV program listings and use other TV Guide On Screen system features? Answer: After the setup data has been entered, the initial data download for the TV Guide On Screen system requires your unit to be placed in the Standby mode for the first 24 hours. 12.
