Section 5: Applications
Apps Screen
The Apps screen ( ) holds all applications installed on your device. Applications that you download and install
are also added to Apps.
From the Apps screen, you can change the way apps appear on the screen, uninstall apps you’ve downloaded,
and share apps with friends. When you install new apps, additional screens are added to hold them.
The Apps screen is like the Home screen — it consists of panels that extend beyond the display width to provide
more space. Slide your finger horizontally across the screen to scroll to the left or right side panels. As you scroll,
the indicator at the bottom of the display shows your current position.
Tip: You can place shortcuts to apps on the Home screen. For more information, refer to “Shortcuts and
Widgets” on page 13.
Accessing the Apps Screen
► From a Home screen, tap Apps.
Downloading and Installing Apps
Discover new apps to download and install on your device:

Uninstalling Apps
You can uninstall apps you download and install. Pre‑loaded apps cannot be uninstalled.
1. From the Apps screen, tap Menu

Uninstall/disable apps. Apps that can be uninstalled show
on their icon.
2. Tap , then follow the prompts to uninstall the app.
Customizing the Apps Screen
Sort Option
By default, app icons appear in a Customizable grid. You can change the view type to an Alphabetical grid.
1. From the Apps screen, tap Menu

View type.
2. Choose an option:
● Customizable grid: The default view, which allows you to touch and hold on apps to move them from screen
to screen.
● Alphabetical grid: Icons are arranged in a grid, in A‑Z order.
Apps Screen Options
► From the Apps screen, tap Menu for options:
● Edit: Touch and hold an app icon for these options:
— Drag it to a new location.
— Drag it to to create a new folder to contain the icon.
— Drag it to to launch Application manager to view information about the app. For more information,
refer to “Application Manager” on page 53.
— Drag to (if available) to remove the icon. The trashcan is only available for apps you’ve installed.
Pre‑loaded apps cannot be removed.
● Create folder: Create a new folder to contain apps.
● View type: Configure how apps are listed on the screen.
● Uninstall/disable apps: Remove/or disable an app that you downloaded from your device. Preloaded apps
cannot be uninstalled.
● Show disabled apps: Control whether disabled app icons are visible on the Apps screen.
Task Manager
Your device can run multiple apps simultaneously, with some apps running in the background. Use Task Manager
to see which apps are running on your device, and to end running apps to extend battery life. You can also
uninstall apps from your device and check memory usage.
1. From any unlocked screen, press and hold Home, then select Task Manager.
2. Tap the Active applications tab to view apps running on your device. Select End, or End all to close apps.
3. Tap the Downloaded tab to view information about apps you’ve installed on your device. Touch Uninstall to
remove an app from your device.
4. Tap the RAM tab to display the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory) in use. Touch Clear memory to
clear processes to increase available RAM.
5. Tap the Storage tab for internal system storage and SD card memory statistics.
Application Folders
There are several applications that are grouped into different folders. The applications in this section are described
alphabetically. The following folders contain the applications listed below:
Galaxy Plus: Dropbox, Evernote, Flipboard, and SketchBook for Galaxy.
Google: Drive, Gmail, Google, Google Settings, Google+, Hangouts, Photos,
Play Books, Play Games, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Newsstand, and
Voice Search.
Samsung: Action Memo, Downloads, Group Play, S Translator, S Voice,
Samsung Link, Story Album and Video Editor.
T-Mobile: Amazon, Lookout Security, Mobile HotSpot, Mobile Internet
Management, and T‑Mobile My Account
Customizing the Application Folder Names
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps.
2. Tap a group entry then touch and hold the name of the group from the top of the on‑screen pop up.
3. Use the on‑screen text entry method to replace the name.
Action Memo
The S Pen and Action Memo let you quickly access the information you need while using any application. You
can keep a memo always nearby by pinning it to the screen. Link your short notes to applications like Contacts,
Messages, and more. For more information, refer to “S Pen” on page 15.
Creating a New Memo
1. From a Home screen, tap Apps

2. Tap an existing Memo to open it then touch the screen to enter edit mode.

Tap Tap to create memo to create a new action memo.
3. Use the onscreen options to create your memo.
4. Tap Save to store the new memo.
