Cookware guide To cook food in your microwave oven, microwaves must be able to penetrate the food without being reflected or absorbed by the cookware holding the food. Consequently, it is important to choose cookware that both allows microwaves to penetrate food and is microwave-safe. The following lists contain various types of cookware and indicate if and how the cookware should be used in a microwave oven.
Cooking guide Microwave energy actually penetrates food and is attracted to and absorbed by the water, fat, and sugar molecules in the food. The microwaves cause the molecules in the food to move rapidly. The rapid movement of these molecules creates friction and the resulting heat cooks the food. Cooking techniques Stirring Stir foods such as casseroles and vegetables while cooking to distribute heat evenly.
Cooking guide General cooking recommendations • • • • • • Cooking guide • • Dense foods, such as potatoes, take longer to heat than lighter foods.
