Fixing problems Your problem may be listed on page 3.6 in the ‘LCD error messages’ section. Below are other problems you can solve by yourself. If not, call for service. Fax problems Symptom The machine is not working, there is no display and the buttons are not working. Cause and Solution • Unplug the power cord and plug it in again. • Check your power socket is live. • Check that the phone line is connected properly. No dial tone. The numbers stored in the memory do not dial correctly.
Symptom You cannot poll another machine. The fax you receive has got blank spaces or you received poor-quality copy. Cause and Solution • The fax machine you are polling may be using a poll code. • The machine sending you the fax may be faulty. • The fax machine sending you a fax may have a dirty scan glass. • A noisy phone line can cause line errors. • Check your machine by making a copy. • The cartridge toner may be empty. Poor-quality copy • You may run the adjust shading in maintenance.
Maintenance Clearing memory You can selectively clear information stored in your machine’s memory. 1. Press Menu, then press Memory Clear on the one-touch keypad. The display shows the options you can choose to clear. 3. PHONEBK&MEMORY : clears the one-touch, speed dial, or group dial numbers stored in memory. In addition, all the schedule job operations you have reserved are also canceled. Note : If there is received data in memory to be printed you cannot clear PHONEBK&MEMORY until printing it. 4.
Cleaning the document scanner To keep your machine working properly, occasionally clean the white roller, ADF (automatic document feeder) rubber, and the scanning glass. If they are dirty, documents sent to another fax machine will not be clear. 1. Open the control panel with hand. 2. Flip up the control panel latch in front of the left side arm to hold the control panel open. 3.
5. Clean the ADF (automatic document feeder) rubber piece. 6. Carefully wipe the scanning glass with a soft, dry cloth. If the glass is very dirty, first wipe it with a slightly dampened cloth, then with a dry cloth. Be very careful not to scratch the glass surface. 3 Troubleshooting 7. Replace the roller in reverse order, and then pull down the control panel latch and close the control panel firmly until it clicks into place. Maintenance 3.
Managing toner cartridge Expected cartridge life The life of your toner cartridge depends on the amount of toner used in each print job. For instance, when you print a typical business letter with about 5% page coverage, you can expect a toner cartridge life of approximately 6,000 pages. The actual number may vary according to the print density of the page you print. If you print a lot of graphics, you may need to change the cartridge more often.
To replace the toner cartridge: 1. Pull the cover release button toward you, open the machine cover. 2. Remove the old toner cartridge. Follow the instructions printed on the cartridge box to recycle the used cartridge. 3 Troubleshooting 3. Install new toner cartridge, see page 1.5. Maintenance 3.
