Before You Start About the Product Capacity Representation Standard About the capacity representation of the storage The capacity of the storage device (HDD, SSD) of the manufacturer is calculated assuming that 1KB=1,000 Bytes. However, the operating system (Windows) calculates the storage device capacity assuming that 1KB=1,024 Bytes, and therefore the capacity representation of the HDD in Windows is smaller than the actual capacity due to the difference in capacity calculation. Proper Posture During Computer Use Chapter 1 Getting Started 21 Maintaining a proper posture during computer use is very important to prevent physical harm. •• Do not use the computer while you are lying down, but only while you are sitting down. The following instructions are about maintaining a proper posture during computer use developed through human engineering. Please read and follow them carefully when using the computer. •• Do not use the computer on your lap.

Keep your arm at a right angle as shown by the figure. •• Adjust the height of the monitor and the LCD screen so that its top height is equal to or lower than your eyes. •• Avoid setting the monitor and LCD excessively bright. •• Keep the monitor and LCD screen clean. •• If you wear glasses, clean them before using the computer.

About Windows Activation When you turn the computer on for the first time, the Windows activation screen appears. Follow the activation procedures according to the instructions on the screen to use the computer.

What is Microsoft Windows 8? Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 Microsoft Windows 8 (hereafter referred to as Windows) is an operating system that is required for operating a computer. 32 Searching for Help To use your computer optimally, you need to know how to use it properly. Therefore, It is better to learn how to use Windows by utilizing Windows Help and Support. •• The screen may appear somewhat different depending on the model and the operating system.
Screen At a Glance Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 Windows 8 provides both the new Start screen mode and the Desktop mode of the existing OS. Start Screen 1 Start Screen Refers to the default Start screen of Windows 8. 2 App Refers to the apps that are currently installed. 3 Desktop Displaying the Charms Start Screen When you turn on the computer, the Start screen is displayed, which allows you to use the applications (Application, App, hereafter referred to as an App) at the same location.

Using the Charms Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 The Charms is a new type of menu that combines the Start menu with the Control Panel of existing Windows. Using the Charms Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 36 Changing the Settings Frequently used Windows menus are collected. Click the Charms > Settings. Using Apps Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 An App refers to an application program (hereafter referred to as an App). In a larger sense, it refers to all the software programs installed on the operating system. Windows 8 provides basic Apps for frequently performed tasks. Starting/Exiting an App Click on an App in the Start screen to activate it. To exit the App 1 2 Move your mouse pointer to the top of the screen. Your mouse pointer changes to a hand shape.
Using Apps Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 Running Two Apps at the Same Time Adding/Removing an App to/from the Start Screen 1 2 3 4 Click Start screen > right-click your mouse button. Click All Apps at the bottom of the screen to display all the Apps that are currently installed. Select the Apps in the Start screen. Move your mouse pointer to the top of the screen. Your mouse pointer changes to a hand shape.
Using Apps Using the Windows Store If you run the App Store in the Start screen, the Apps in the Windows Store are displayed. However, a Microsoft account is required to purchase App(s) in the Windows Store. Continue after registering your Microsoft Account in the Charms. Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 39 Configuring your Microsoft Account A Microsoft Account allows you to synchronize your settings with other device(s) running Windows 8 online allowing you to share file(s) or settings.
Windows Hot Key Function You can use the following convenient hot keys in Windows 8. Function Hot Keys Function Description Displaying the Start Screen Windows Key Displaying the Desktop Windows Key + D Switches to Desktop mode. Running the Charms Windows Key + C Activates the Charms. Locking the Screen Windows Key + L Locks the screen. Opening the Ease of Access Center Windows Key + U Opens the Ease of Access Center configuration.
Using the Touch Screen (For touch screen models only) Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 41 You can use the computer using the touch screen only, without using the keyboard and mouse. The touch screen function is only supported for models which have the function installed at the factory. •• If you are using your computer for a long period of time, it is recommended using a keyboard and mouse. •• Make sure to operate your touch screen using your finger.

Spreading 2 fingers widely or Zooms in or out of the target. bringing them towards each other Touching and holding for a while (Right-clicking your mouse) Touching and dragging 2 fingers up/down, left/right (Scrolling) Provides the same function as right-clicking your mouse button.
Using the Touch Screen (For touch screen models only) Screen Calibration áᔪ When you use the touch screen for the first time or the pointer on the screen does not precisely match the points youŖᮁtouch, calibrate the touch screen using the Tablet PC Settings menu. 2 Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 Select the screen type to calibrate. If the Calibration screen appears, touch the point represented by the “+” mark and then remove your finger.
Using the Touch Screen (For touch screen models only) Entering Characters 3 Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 45 On the Desktop, press the at the right of the taskbar to display the Tablet PC Input Panel. You can enter characters using the keyboard and the Tablet PC Input Panel. Entering characters may differ depending on the operating system and is not supported by some operating systems. If you are using your computer for a long period of time, it is recommended using the keyboard.
Using the Touch Screen (For touch screen models only) Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 Entering characters using the Touch Keyboard Entering characters in Handwriting Mode The Touch keyboard has the standard keyboard layout which allows you to select keys to enter characters. You can enter characters by writing them in the Handwriting Mode Input Panel on the touch screen. 1 Press the Touch Keyboard icon Panel. 2 Press the keys to enter your characters.
Using the Touch Screen (For touch screen models only) Chapter 2 Using Windows 8 47 Touch screen use precautions •• Use the touch screen with clean and dry hands. In a humid environment, remove the moisture from your hands and the touch screen surface before use. •• Be careful not to damage the edges of the touch screen. •• Avoid directly spraying liquid cleansing solution onto the touch screen. The liquid solution may enter the touch screen through the bottom edge.

Keyboard Chapter 3. Using the computer Shortcut key functions and procedures are discussed in the following sections. •• The keyboard image may differ from the actual keyboard. •• The keyboard may differ depending on your country. The following mainly describes the shortcut keys. Shortcut Keys Press both the Fn key and hot key at the same time. Alternatively, press the Fn Lock key as well as a hot key to use the hot key functions more easily.

Controls the screen brightness. Switches the screen output to the LCD or external monitor when an external monitor (or TV) is connected to the computer. Turns the Touchpad function on or off. When using an external mouse only, you can turn the Touchpad off.
Keyboard Shortcut Keys Chapter 3. Using the computer Name Volume Control Keyboard Backlight Brightness Control (Optional) Silent Mode or Airplane Mode 51 Function Controls the volume. Controls the brightness of the keyboard backlight. This function is only available for models that support the keyboard backlight feature. If there is a brightness sensor in your model, you can adjust the backlight brightness. Reduces the Fan noise so that users can use the computer without hearing noise.
Keyboard Chapter 3. Using the computer Other Function Keys (Optional) Performs the right-click mouse function (touchpad). + or Ctrl If you press the Fn Lock key, you can use the hot key functions without pressing the Fn key. or If the hot keys do not work properly, you have to install the Settings.
Touchpad The touchpad provides the same function as a mouse and the left and right buttons of the touchpad plays the role of the left and right buttons of a mouse. •• Touch the touchpad with your fingers only. Anything other than your fingers, such as a ball-point pen, will not be recognized by the touchpad. •• If you touch the Touchpad or press the Touchpad buttons while booting up, the Windows boot time may be extended. Touchpad Chapter 3. Using the computer The Scroll Function Charms Menu Activating Function This function is the same as the scroll area of the Touchpad. If you place your finger on the right edge of the touch pad and drag your finger toward the center, the Charms menu appears. If you place two fingers over the Touchpad and move them up, down, left or right, the screen is scrolled up, down, left or right accordingly.
Touchpad Last Run Window Opening Function Place your finger on the left edge of the touch pad and drag your finger towards the center to activate a previously operating program from among the currently running programs. Chapter 3. Using the computer 56 Touchpad On/Off Function Locking with shortcut keys If you want to use the mouse only without using the touchpad, you can turn the touchpad off. To lock the touchpad function, press the + keys.
External-type CD drive (ODD, To be purchased) This computer supports an external USB CD-ROM drive (can be additionally purchased). Check if the interface type of the external CD-ROM drive is a USB type. For detailed specifications, refer to the catalog. Chapter 3. Using the computer Connecting the CD Drive Connect the CD drive to the USB port. •• Do not insert a cracked or scratched CD. Otherwise, the CD may break and damage the optical disk drive when the CD rotates at a high speed.
External-type CD drive (ODD, To be purchased) Inserting and Ejecting a CD 1 Press the Eject button of the CD drive. Status Indicator Emergency Hole Eject Button 2 When the CD tray opens, insert a CD or DVD and push the tray in until it clicks. 3 Push the CD tray inward until it clicks. The CD drive status indicator is turned on. •• A CD drive’s reading and writing speed may differ depending on the condition and type of the media.
Multi Card Slot (Optional) Using the multi-card slot, you can read and write data on various types of memory cards. Chapter 3. Using the computer ► For 13.3 inch models When you insert a memory card, make sure to insert the memory card in the correct direction. Pushing an incorrectly inserted memory card may damage the card itself or the slot. •• You can use memory cards as a removable disk and conveniently exchange data with digital devices such as a digital camera, etc.
Multi Card Slot (Optional) ► For 14 inch models Chapter 3. Using the computer Memory Card Naming The following table shows the full names of memory cards for each abbreviation.
Multi Card Slot (Optional) 1 Insert a memory card into the multi-card slot in the correct direction. 2 The following message appears on the top right. Click to open the folder and click View Files. If a message appears to notify you of any problem, click the corresponding window > Continue without Scanning. You can perform the following process described in No. 3. 3 Windows Explorer runs on the Desktop. You can save, move and delete data on the corresponding drive.
Connecting an External Display Device (Optional) If you connect an external display device such as a monitor, TV, projector, etc., you can view the picture on the wider screen of the external device when you give a presentation or watch a video or movie. Connect the VGA cable (15-pin) to the connected VGA adapter and then connect the other end of the VGA cable to the D-SUB port of the monitor or the TV. Using the computer 64 ᯲ Connecting through the HDMI port (Optional) By connecting the computer to a TV with a HDMI port, you can enjoy both a high visual quality and a high sound quality. After connecting a TV through HDMI, you have to configure the screen and sound. 1 Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of the TV. Connecting an External Display Device (Optional) Using AMD Graphics Effectively (optional) PowerXpress is Switchable Graphics technology that selectively enables either the internal or external graphics chipset depending on the program to extend the battery life time while maintaining the graphics performance. LCD Brightness Control Chapter 3. Using the computer ᰆ⊹ A wired network is a network environment used for a company network or broadband internet connection at home. 2 •• Since these descriptions are written on the basis of the latest operating system, Windows 8, some of the content and the figures of the descriptions may differ depending on the operating system. Since the procedures for other Windows operating systems are similar, use the computer referring to these descriptions.
Wired Network 4 Select Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) from the list of Network Components and click Properties. Chapter 3. Using the computer 5 Configure the IP settings. When using DHCP, select Obtain an IP address automatically. To use a static IP address, select Use the following IP address, and set the IP address manually. When not using DHCP, ask your network administrator for the IP address. •• The Network Component name may differ depending on the Operating System Installed.

Backup DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) A way to save the current data to restore it later if necessary. A backup is a way to restore computer data when the data or computer is damaged. This refers to automatically allocating IP addresses to the users on the network by the network administrators.
Glossary Chapter 6 Appendix 143 DVD (Digital Versatile Disk) Icon DVD was developed to replace CD (compact disk). Although the shape and size of the disc are the same as that of a CD, the capacity of a DVD is at least 4.7GB while the capacity of a CD is 600MB. DVD video is digital unlike VHS (analog) video and supports MPEG2 compression and digital audio. To play a DVD, a DVD drive is required. This refers to a small image that represents a file that users can use.
Glossary Network A group of computers and devices, such as printers and scanners, connected by a communications link. A network can be either small or large and can be connected permanently through cables or temporarily through telephone lines or wireless links. The biggest network is the Internet, a worldwide network. Chapter 6 Appendix 144 PCMCIA( Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) card This is an extended card slot specification for mobile computers such as a notebook computer.
Glossary Chapter 6 Appendix SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) card System File SDXC provides higher capacity and speed than SDHC specification. System Files refer to files that are read and used by the Windows operating system. In general, system files must not be deleted or moved. This is a new SD card specification that can theoretically implement up to 2TB of memory capacity. To implement high memory capacity, the exFAT specification is applied.
