Charging the computer Connect an external power supply (sold separately) to the USB Type-C port or Thunderbolt™ 4 port to use it as the auxiliary power or charge the computer.

Internal battery • To remove or replace the internal battery, take it to a Samsung Service Center. You will be charged for this service. Speaker • Sound is emitted from the speakers.
Getting started 3 Turning the computer on and off Fully charge the battery using the adapter before using the computer for the first time. The computer turns on automatically when the display panel is opened. If the computer does not turn on automatically, press the Power button. Turning the computer on 1 2 Before turning on the computer, check that the battery is charged and charge it if necessary. Open the display panel.
Getting started About Windows Activation Turning the computer off When you turn the computer on for the first time, the Windows Activation screen appears. 1 2 Follow the activation procedures according to the instructions on the screen to use the computer. Select the Start button ( Select ). → Shut down. The computer’s date and time may be incorrect when you turn it on for the first time. They may also be incorrect if the battery has been fully discharged or removed.
Getting started Unlocking the screen Windows To unlock the lock screen, do one of the following: Microsoft Windows is an operating system that is used to control a computer. • Mouse: Click the lock screen. • Images and available features may differ depending on the model and operating system. • Keyboard: Press any key. • Touchpad: Tap the touchpad. If the account has a password, enter the password to log in after unlocking the screen.
Getting started Configuring the Windows Settings You can configure the basic system settings, such as installing or uninstalling apps and managing accounts, on the Windows Settings screen. Select the Start button ( ) → Settings. Then, select an option you want to change after the Windows Settings screen appears. You can also configure the settings from the Control Panel like previous OS versions. Select the Start button ( ) → All apps → Windows Tools → Control Panel.
Basics Keyboard Enter text or access computer functions with the keyboard. • Images and available features may differ depending on the model and operating system. • The keyboard layout may differ depending on the country. The hot keys will be mainly explained in this manual. Using hot keys • Press and hold the Fn key and press the F12 key. When the Fn Lock feature turns on, press a hot key. To use keyboard hot keys, do one of the following: • Press and hold the Fn key and press a hot key.

Basics Touchpad Clicking Tap the touchpad or press the left touchpad button. Use the touchpad to move the cursor or select an item. The left and right buttons of the touchpad act the same as the left and right buttons of a mouse. Tap • Use the touchpad only with fingers. The touchpad will not recognize actions of other objects. or Click • Images and the touchpad layout may differ depending on the model.
Basics Gesture functions Right-clicking This function enables right-clicking. Swiping To right-click an item, press the right touchpad button. To scroll up, down, left or right to a desired location, swipe with two fingers on the touchpad. Click or Dragging To move an icon or an app to a desired location, press and hold it and then drag it to the target position with the left touchpad button pressed. Pinching To zoom in, spread two fingers apart while viewing a website, map, or image.
Basics Configuring touchpad gestures Touchpad lock Configure touchpad gestures to use the touchpad more efficiently. Press and hold the Fn key and press the F5 key to lock the touchpad. Select the Start button ( ) → Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad → desired options. Some options in the touchpad settings may not be available depending on the model.
Basics SIM or USIM card (nano-SIM card) tray (5G models only) 2 Insert the SIM or USIM card. 3 Pull out the tray gently from the tray slot. Be careful to not hurt your fingertip while pulling out the tray. • Use only a nano-SIM card (sold separately). • Use caution not to lose or let others use the SIM or USIM card. Samsung is not responsible for any damages or inconveniences caused by lost or stolen cards. 4 Place the SIM or USIM card on the tray with the gold-colored contacts facing downwards.
Basics Cellular data (5G models only) Turning the cellular data off To save battery power, turn off the cellular data when not in use. You can insert the SIM or USIM card so you can access the Internet using your cellular data connection. Select the status icons on the taskbar and select Cellular data will be disconnected. You may incur additional charges when using a mobile network. Turning the cellular data on Select the status icons on the taskbar and select . Cellular data will be connected.
Basics Wireless LAN Connecting to a Wi-Fi network Connect the computer to a wireless network to use the Internet. 1 The descriptions below are for computer models with a Wireless LAN card or device. A Wireless LAN device is optional. The pictures in this manual may differ from the actual product depending on the wireless LAN device model. About Access Point (AP) An Access Point (AP) is a network device that bridges wired and wireless LANs and corresponds to a wireless hub in a wired network.
Basics 2 Deactivating the Wi-Fi feature Select a network from the list of detected wireless networks and select Connect automatically → Connect. When you are not using the Wi-Fi feature, turn it off to save battery power. Select the status icons on the taskbar and select . The Wi-Fi feature is deactivated. 3 Enter a password, if necessary, and select Next. Once the computer has been connected to a wireless network, it will attempt to connect to it automatically when it is available.
Basics Bluetooth Pairing with other Bluetooth devices Use Bluetooth to listen to music or exchange data or media files with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. 1 Select the status icons on the taskbar to ensure that Bluetooth is activated. • Samsung is not responsible for the loss, interception, or misuse of data sent or received via Bluetooth. • Always ensure that you share and receive data with devices that are trusted and properly secured.
Basics 3 Unpairing Bluetooth devices Select Bluetooth to select a device you want to add and finish pairing. 1 Select the Start button ( devices. ) → Settings → Bluetooth & Your computer will display the paired devices. 2 On the device you want to unpair from your computer, select → Remove device → Yes. The connection to the Bluetooth device will be disconnected.
Basics 3 4 Fingerprint recognition You can sign in to Windows, apps, and services by teaching Windows to recognize your fingerprint. 5 6 Registering your fingerprint Create a password and PIN first to use the fingerprint scan feature. 1 Select the Start button ( in options. ) → Settings → Accounts → Sign- Select PIN (Windows Hello) → Add to create a PIN number. Select Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) → Set up to start the fingerprint registration.
Basics Removing a fingerprint 1 2 Select the Start button ( in options. For better fingerprint recognition • Prevent the fingerprint recognition sensor from being scratched or damaged by metal objects, such as coins, keys, and necklaces. ) → Settings → Accounts → Sign- • Ensure that the fingerprint recognition sensor and your fingers are clean and dry. Basics Memory card slot Inserting a memory card Use a memory card to transfer data to other devices. You can use data stored on your device, such as digital cameras, smartphones, or tablets, on your computer, or you can take your saved data to another device. 1 Insert a memory card into the memory card slot in the indicated direction until it clicks into place. Memory cards are sold separately. This computer supports the following types of memory cards.
Basics 3 Removing a memory card Select Start. When you push the card, it clicks and disengages from the memory card slot. Grasp the end of the card and pull it out of the slot. • To use a memory card to exchange data with a digital device, such as a digital camera, formatting the data with the digital device is recommended. Formatting a memory card • When trying to use a formatted memory card in another digital device, format the memory card again in the device.
Basics 3 Thunderbolt™ 4 You can use Thunderbolt™ devices or share files and printers by connecting two computers that support Thunderbolt™. Set your network profile sharing options and select Save changes to save your settings. The following screen is an example of selecting Turn on network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing. Using Thunderbolt™ devices Connect the Thunderbolt™ device to the Thunderbolt™ 4 port.
Basics External display 2 Connecting the computer to an external display device can be useful for presentations or when watching a movie. The cables and adapters required to connect an external display are sold separately. The computer supports HDMI cables, USB Type-C and Thunderbolt™ display cables.
Basics 3 4 5 6 Connect the power cord to the external display. You can also select the display mode in Windows settings. Turn on the display and change its display mode to one that supports an external input. Select the Start button ( ) → Settings → System → Display, and then select Detect on the Multiple displays option. Press and hold the Fn key and press the F4 key. Select a mode. Applications 2 Samsung Security Create a privacy folder to hide private files on your computer from other users. Also, you can set the various privacy protection feature such as the secret screen feature or blocking recording feature. 3 4 Using the privacy folder Set a folder as the privacy folder and hide private files in your computer from other users. To set the privacy folder, you need a password set up for Windows. Select Set folder settings, and enter your password, then select OK.
Applications 3 Hiding the privacy folder Press and hold the Windows key and press the F12 key to hide the privacy folder. • Opacity Effect: Make the window transparent. • Dark Screen Effect: Make the window black. Alternatively, select the Start button ( ) → All apps → Samsung Security → Privacy Folder and select the Show folder switch. Using the secret screen The privacy folder will not appear in the File Explorer. Press and hold the Windows key and press the F11 key to enable the secret screen.
Applications Using block recording Using the security cam feature If your computer is hacked, the block recording feature prevents the use of the camera and the microphone. You can protect your computer system and your privacy safely. Use the security cam feature on the login screen when you leave your seat while turning on your computer.
Applications 3 Samsung Update Install and update Samsung applications and drivers on the computer easily and conveniently. This application enables the user to search for or download the BIOS, drivers, and applications over the Internet. Keep the computer performing better and more stably with Samsung Update. The items will be updated. • To check for available updates, the computer must be connected to the Internet. • Only applications that have been installed with this application can be updated.
Applications 5 Samsung Flow Samsung Flow allows you to easily connect your mobile device to your computer to complete tasks, such as checking notifications or sharing content, more conveniently. 1 2 3 4 Select the Start button ( Confirm the passkey on both devices and tap Ok. Applications Samsung Studio Plus Samsung Gallery Create and edit videos easily using photos and videos in your computer. View images and videos stored in your computer. If Bixby asks you a question during a conversation, say “Hi, Bixby” and answer Bixby. Or tap and answer Bixby. You can talk to Bixby or type text. Applications 6 7 Galaxy Book Smart Switch Galaxy Book Smart Switch allows you to transfer data from your previous computer to your new computer. • This feature may not be supported on some devices. • Samsung takes copyright seriously. Only transfer content that you own or have the right to transfer. On the previous device, launch the Galaxy Book Smart Switch application. If you do not have the application, download it from Microsoft Store.
Applications Galaxy Book Experience Galaxy Book Experience allows you to check and run the features of various applications provided by Samsung. Select the Start button ( Experience. ) → All apps → Galaxy Book To use this feature, you must sign in to your Samsung account.
Applications 3 Online Support(S Service) A service associate can resolve any problems you have with your computer using the online chat and remote control program. You can receive the help when you are having trouble using Samsung software. Select Online Support(S Service) on the main page. Enter the Contents and select Request. Online Support (S Service) You can access the online service for free for a certain period of time after purchasing your computer.
Applications Screen Recorder 3 When you are finished recording the screen, select 4 Select Record the screen while using your computer. 1 Select the Start button ( ) → All apps → Screen Recorder. The screen recorder toolbar will appear on the top of the screen. You can view the file in File Explorer ( or Pictures. . ) → This PC → Videos to finish the screen recorder toolbar. • Select to expand or collapse the screen recorder toolbar.
Applications Quick Search Setting the video resolution 1 2 3 Select the Start button ( ) → All apps → Screen Recorder. Search for content on the computer quickly. This step appears only when the application runs for the first time. The Settings window will appear. Select Display and select the resolution you want under Video resolution.
Applications SmartThings Quick Share Control and manage smart appliances and Internet of Things (IoT) products with your computer. Send content to nearby devices via Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth. To view more information, launch the SmartThings application → How to use. and tap • Connection methods may vary depending on the type of connected devices or the shared content. • The devices you can connect may vary depending on the region.
Settings & Upgrade Controlling brightness using the taskbar 1 2 Display brightness Select the status icons on the taskbar. Drag the adjustment bar to the desired brightness. Brightness adjustment bar Adjust the display brightness to reduce eye strain and save power. Controlling brightness using the keyboard • To dim the display screen, press and hold the Fn key and press the F2 key. • The display screen is automatically set to the brightest level when the adapter is connected.
Settings & Upgrade Volume • To mute or unmute the volume, press and hold the Fn key and press the F6 key. Adjust the system volume or sound volume when playing music or video. Controlling volume using the keyboard • To turn down the volume, press and hold the Fn key and press the F7 key. Controlling volume using the taskbar 1 2 Select the status icons on the taskbar. Drag the adjustment bar to the desired volume. • To turn up the volume, press and hold the Fn key and press the F8 key.
Settings & Upgrade BIOS (Setup utility) Entering the BIOS screen Define a boot password, change the boot priority, or configure the installed chipsets. 1 2 • Incorrect settings may cause the system to malfunction or crash. Turn on the computer. Before the Samsung logo appears, press the F2 key several times. • The BIOS setup screens, menus, and items may appear differently depending on the model and BIOS version.

Settings & Upgrade Boot password Setting passwords Setting a password with the BIOS enhances protection against viruses and hacking attacks. There are three password settings available: Supervisor Password, User Password, and HDD Password. • Supervisor Password (low security level): This password is required when turning on the computer or entering the BIOS setup. • Do not forget your password or expose it to others.
Settings & Upgrade 5 Setting a boot password 1 2 3 4 Turn on the computer. 6 7 Before the Samsung logo appears, press the F2 key several times. Access the Security menu. Enter a password and select Ok. The password should be 8-20 characters and contain both uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers. Enter the password again to confirm it and select Ok. Select Save → Ok to save and restart.
Settings & Upgrade Removing a password Boot priority 1 2 Change the boot priority from the BIOS setup. 3 4 5 6 7 Turn on the computer. 1 2 Before the Samsung logo appears, press the F2 key several times. Access the Security menu. 3 4 5 6 7 Select a password type (Supervisor Password, User Password, or HDD Password). Enter the current password and select Ok. Without entering any characters, select Ok → Ok. Select Save → Ok to save and restart.
Settings & Upgrade 3 Using the Battery Calibration Function Select Advanced → Smart Battery Calibration. When charging/discharging the battery repeatedly for a short time only, the battery usage time may be reduced by the difference between the actual battery charge and the remaining charge display. You can make the actual battery charge and the remaining charge display the same by discharging the battery completely using the Battery Calibration function, and then recharging it again.
Settings & Upgrade Battery Charging the battery Fully charge the battery using the adapter before using the computer for the first time. 1 Connect the adapter to the Thunderbolt™ 4 or the USB Type-C port of the computer. • Use only Samsung-approved adapter, batteries, and cables. Unapproved adapters or cables can cause the battery to explode or damage the computer. • Incorrectly connecting the charger may cause serious damage to the computer. • This computer is equipped with an internal battery.
Settings & Upgrade 3 Battery status When the battery is fully charged, the operating status LED turns green. Disconnect the adapter from the computer. When the adapter is removed, move the cursor over the battery icon on the taskbar to view the current battery charge. Viewing the current battery charge when the computer is turned off Connect or disconnect the adapter from the computer to view the current battery charge when the computer is turned off.
Settings & Upgrade Saving battery power When battery expiration is imminent Right-click the battery icon on the taskbar and select Power and sleep settings → Power & battery → Battery saver → Turn on now. Batteries are consumable parts and the remaining battery life is currently low. Continued use may result in charge or discharge failures. Whether or not batteries can be used is determined based on safety evaluations.
Troubleshooting • The Samsung Recovery application may not be provided in models with less than 64 GB of storage. If you cannot access the Samsung Recovery application, refer to Windows recovery function. • Some functions may differ or may be unavailable depending on the version. Refer to the application’s help information.
Troubleshooting 2 Recovering to factory default You can restore the computer to its factory default settings. If necessary, back up important data to an external storage device before restoring the system. See Backing up data. 1 When the computer starts Windows: Select the Start button ( Recovery. ) → All apps → Samsung When the computer does not start Windows: Turn on the computer and press the F4 key several times before the Samsung logo appears.
Troubleshooting 2 Backing up data • When backing up to an external storage device, connect the device to the computer and then select the external drive. Back up important data to an alternate internal drive or an external storage device regularly to prevent data loss. Backing up the current system 3 You can back up the factory default system or current system to an alternate internal drive or an external storage device. 1 Select a drive to save the backed up data → Start backup.
Troubleshooting 3 4 Recovering after a backup Select a backup point saved on an alternate internal drive or an external storage device to recover the computer to that point. 1 2 Select Backup and restore management. Select Restore of the data you want to recover → Start restore. When backing up to an external storage device, connect the device to the computer. Select the Start button ( Recovery. ) → All apps → Samsung 5 69 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete data recovery.
Troubleshooting 4 Copying the drive (making a disk image) To replace the drive, move the data to the new drive by making a disk image. The new drive must be large enough to hold the data from the current drive. Purchase an external hard drive connector separately to connect the new drive to the computer. When Windows is installed on a non-user replaceable disk, such as an eMMC, you cannot copy the drive. 1 2 3 Connect the new drive to the computer with an external hard drive connector.
