TCO'95-Ecological requirements for personal computers (TCO applied model only)
AB general requirements
AB2 Written Eco-document acompanying the products
Congratulations! You have just pur chased a TCO'95 approved and labelled pro duc t! Your choic e has provided
you with a product developed for professional use. Your purchase has also contributed to reducing the burden on
the environment and to the further developm ent of enviro nmentally -adapted electron ic products.
Why do we have environmentally-labelled monitors?
In many coun trie s, environmental labellin g has become an establish ed method for encouraging the adaptatio n of
goods and servic es to the environ ment. The main problem as far as monito rs and other electron ic equipment are
concerned is that enviro nmentally harmful subs tances are used both in the products and during their
manufacture. Since it has not been possible so far for the majority of electronic equipm ent to be recycled in a
satisfac tor y way, most of t hese potentially damaging sub stances sooner or later enter Nature.
There are also other characteristic s of a monito r, such as energy consu mption levels, that are important from
both the working and natural environment viewpoin ts. Since all types of convention al electrici ty generation have a
negative effect on the envir onm ent (acidi c and climate-infl uencing emiss ions, radio active waste, etc.) it is vital to
conserve energy. Electronic equipment in offic es con sumes an enormous amount of energy, since it is often
routinely left runn ing contin uou sly.
What does labelling involve?
This product meets the requirements for the TCO'95 scheme, which provides for international environmental
labellin g of monitors. The labelling scheme was developed as a joint effort by the TCO (The Swedish
Confederation of Professional Employees), Naturskyddsforeningen (The Swedish Society for Nature
Conservation) and NUTEK (The National Board for Industrial and Technical Development in Sweden).
The requir ements cover a wide range of iss ues: enviro nment, ergon omics, usabil ity, emissio n of electrical and
