Use and Care Manual

33-English
(1) Time of Use Level, or Price Level: This column may be labeled Time of Use (TOU) or Price depending on the
option you selected during setup. The information displayed in this column is transmitted over the network by your
energy service provider. For each level displayed in the column, you may choose a unique setback.
For example, “Low” criticality conditions normally call for no setback: the thermostat will use the programmed
temperatures. Alternately, in “Critical” conditions you may choose to adjust the temperature settings by 3 °F. When
Price is selected, you may select the amount of change based on price information provided by the energy service
provider.
(2) Setback: The amount of change in the temperature settings in response to Time of Use or Price levels. The
thermostat adjusts the programmed temperature by the Setback value. For example, if you have programmed
72 °F as your afternoon temperature, a Setback of 2 °F would change the cooling to 74 °F, and the heating to
70 °F.
(3) Cycle: The cycle feature is used in some energy conservation programs. This feature limits the percentage of time
that the HVAC system can run in any given 30 minute interval. Within the 30 minute internal, the start time is set
randomly. This allows your energy company to randomize the time when HVAC system are operating in its service
area. For example, if many thermostats in a community are set to 50%, the community HVAC demand will fall by
half. Your energy company may use this feature in Critical situations, such as an energy emergency.
Cycle time is normally set to 100%. When 100% is selected, the HVAC system operates whenever the temperature
requires heating or cooling. If a smaller percentage is selected, the HVAC system will only operate for the
percentage of time you enter, and the time required for heating or cooling. For example, if you set the percentage
to 80%, the HVAC system has the potential to operate for 24 minutes, if the temperature requires it to do so. During
the 6 minute off period, the system will not operate regardless of the temperature.
NOTE: Contact your energy service provider before attempting to adjust the energy cycle feature.
