This manual will show you how to use your charger safely and effectively. Please read, understand and follow these instructions and precautions carefully, as this manual contains important safety and operating instructions. 1. IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Risk of electric shock or fire. 1.1 Do not expose the charger to rain or snow. 1.2 Use only recommended attachments. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by Schumacher® Electric Corporation may result in a risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons or damage to property. 1.3 To reduce the risk of damage to the electric plug or cord, pull by the plug rather than the cord when disconnecting the charger. 1.
2. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS Risk of explosive gases. 2.1 Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate explosive gases during normal battery operation. For this reason, it is of utmost importance that you follow the instructions each time you use the charger. 2.2 To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions and those published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery.
3.4 If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash the area with soap and water. If acid enters your eye, immediately flood the eye with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention right away. 3.5 If it is necessary to remove the battery from the vehicle to charge it, always remove the grounded terminal first. Make sure all of the accessories in the vehicle are off to prevent arcing. 3.
5. DC CONNECTION PRECAUTIONS 5.1 Connect and disconnect the DC output clips only after setting all of the charger switches to the “off” position and removing the AC plug from the electrical outlet. Never allow the clips to touch each other. 5.2 Attach the clips to the battery and chassis, as indicated in steps 6.5, 6.6, 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4. 6. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS INSTALLED IN VEHICLE. A spark near the battery may cause a battery explosion.
6.9 7. See CALCULATING CHARGE TIME for length of charge information. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS OUTSIDE VEHICLE. A spark near the battery may cause a battery explosion. To reduce the risk of a spark near the battery: 7.1 Check the polarity of the battery posts. The POSITIVE (POS, P, +) battery post usually has a larger diameter than the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) post. 7.2 Attach at least a 24-inch (61 cm) long 6-gauge (AWG) insulated battery cable to the NEGATIVE (NEG, N, -) battery post. 7.
8.2 Never alter AC cord or plug provided – if it does not fit the outlet, have proper grounded outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Improper connection can result in a risk of an electric shock or electrocution. NOTE: Pursuant to Canadian Regulations, use of an adapter plug is not allowed in Canada. Use of an adapter plug in the United States is not recommended. 8.3 Recommended minimum AWG size for extension cord: • 100 feet long or less - use an 18 gauge extension cord.
11. CONTROL PANEL Voltage Selector Switch This charger has a voltage selector switch on the front of it. Match the charging voltage (6 or 12 volts) to the voltage of the battery being charged. Circuit Breaker This charger is equipped with an internal self-resetting circuit breaker. The breaker protects the charger from temporary overloads. In the event of an overload, the breaker will trip open and after a short cooling off period, will reset automatically.

CALCULATING CHARGE TIME This charger has a rated output of 1 ampere with an expected finish rate of 0.3 amperes.

15.1 Store the charger unplugged, in an upright position. The cord will still conduct electricity until it is unplugged from the outlet. 15.2 Store inside, in a cool, dry place. 15.3 Do not store the clips on the handle, clipped together, on or around metal, or clipped to cables. 16. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REASON/SOLUTION Charger will not turn on when properly connected. AC outlet is dead. Check for an open fuse or circuit breaker supplying the AC outlet.
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REASON/SOLUTION The charger is making an audible clicking sound. Circuit breaker is cycling. The settings may be wrong. Check the charger settings. Battery is defective. Have the battery checked. Shorted battery cables or clips. Circuit breaker cycles when current draw is too high. Check for shorted cables or clips and replace if necessary. Severely discharged battery, but otherwise it is a good battery. The battery may not want to accept a charge due to a run-down state.

Disyuntor Este cargador de batería viene equipado con un disyuntor interno de reposición automática. Dicho dipositivo protege al cargador contra sobrecargas momentáneas. En caso de sobrecarga, el disyuntor se depara y después de un corto período de enfriamiento se repone automáticamente.

16. LOCALIZACIÓN Y SOLUCIÓN DE PROBLEMAS PROBLEMA POSIBLE CAUSA El cargador no se enciende incluso al estar bien conectado. Tomacorriente de CA fuera de funcionamiento. Controle la posible presencia de fusibles abiertos o disyuntores que suministren energía al tomacorriente de CA. Conexión eléctrica deficiente. Controle la posible pérdida del enchufe perteneciente a los cables de alimentación o al alargador. Buena batería pero extremadamente descargada.

4. EMPLACEMENT DU CHARGEUR Le risque de contact avec l’acide de batterie. 4.1 Placez le chargeur aussi loin que possible de la batterie que les câbles CC le permettent. 4.2 Ne jamais placer le chargeur directement au dessus de la batterie en charge ; les gaz de la batterie corroderaient et endommageraient le chargeur. 4.3 Ne pas poser la batterie sur le chargeur. 4.
6.3 Vérifiez la polarité des bornes de la batterie. La borne POSITIVE (POS, P, +) de la batterie a généralement un plus grand diamètre que la borne NÉGATIVE (NEG, N, -). 6.4 Déterminez quelle borne de la batterie est mise à la masse (connectée au chassis). Si la borne négative est connectée au chassis (dans la plupart des véhicules), voir l’étape 6.5. Si la borne positive est connectée au chassis, voir l’étape 6.6. 6.
7.3 Connectez la pince du chargeur POSITIVE (ROUGE) à la borne POSITIVE (POS, P, +) de la batterie. 7.4 Placez vous et l’extrémité libre du câble que vous avez attachés antérieurement à la borne NÉGATIVE (NEG, N, -) de la batterie, aussi loin que possible de la batterie – puis connectez la pince NÉGATIVE (NOIRE) du chargeur à l’extrémité libre du câble. 7.5 Ne vous placez pas face à la batterie lorsque vous effectuez le dernier raccordement. 7.6 Branchez la corde du CA dans une prise de 120 V. 7.

12. CONSIGNES D’UTILISATION Le chargement 1. Garantissez que toutes les composantes de chargeur sont dans l’endroit et dans la bonne condition de travail, en incluant les bottes de plastique sur les clips de batterie. 2. Raccorder la batterie en vous conformant aux instructions de connexion décrite à la section « Utilisation des connecteurs de câble QuickDisconnect ». 3. Connectez le cordon CA en suivant les précautions décrites à la section 8.
13. CALCUL DU TEMPS DE CHARGEMENT Ce chargeur a une production évaluée de 1 ampère avec un taux de fin attendu de 0.3 ampères. Ces productions varieront avec l’âge et la condition de la batterie étant chargée. NOTE : C’est un chargeur manuel. Le fait de charger doit être contrôlé pour prévenir le fait de surcharger de la batterie.
14. CONSIGNES D’ENTRETIEN 14.1 Avant une opération d’entretien, débranchez et déconnectez le chargeur de batterie (voir les sections 6, 7 et 8). 14.2 Après avoir utilisé le chargeur, débranchez-le et utilisez un chiffon sec pour nettoyer toute corrosion de la batterie ainsi que la saleté ou l’huile sur les broches, les câbles et le boîtier du chargeur. 14.
16. TABLEAU DE DÉPANNAGE PROBLÈME CAUSE POSSIBLE RAISON/SOLUTION Le chargeur ne s’allume pas quand il est correctement branché. La prise de courant CA est morte. Vérifiez si un fusible est coupé ou le disjoncteur pour cette prise de courant. Mauvaise connexion électrique. Vérifiez le cordon d’alimentation et la rallonge pour le raccordement des fiches. La batterie est fortement déchargée, mais quand même bonne. La batterie peut ne pas vouloir accepter une charge vu qu’elle est à plat.
PROBLÈME CAUSE POSSIBLE RAISON/SOLUTION Le chargeur produit un fort bourdonnement ou ronflement. Les lamelles du transformateur vibrent (bourdonnement). Aucun problème, c’est une condition normale. Dispositif de diodes ou dispositif du débit du redresseur en court-circuit (ronflement). Faites vérifier votre chargeur par un technicien qualifié. Le coupe-circuit est en fonction :es paramètres peuvent être mauvais. Vérifiez les paramètres du chargeur. La batterie est défectueuse.
17. AVANT DE L’ENVOYER POUR RÉPARATION 17.1 Quand vous rencontrez un problème de chargement, assurez-vous que la batterie est capable d’accepter une charge normale. Utilisez une bonne batterie pour vérifier une deuxième fois toutes les connexions, la prise de courant CA d’une puissance totale de 120 volts, les pinces du chargeur pour la bonne polarité et la qualité de la connexion des câbles aux pinces et des pinces à la batterie.
