FEATURES The EVOLUTION 50/55 Simple Advanced Remote Control centralizes control of all your AV components from a single universal remote and: • F amiliar console design puts all buttons in thumbs’ reach for easy use with one hand or two.
Legend Most buttons on the EVOLUTION 50/55 are positioned, labeled and sometimes, even shaped so that their functions are instantly recognized and understood. As such, this LEGEND addresses only those buttons whose functions are not immediately obvious. Special Functions Buttons A - B - C - D Buttons: Similarly labeled buttons are often found on Blu-ray Disc™ player remotes. Typically they are used to create a specialized command or series of commands. You can use the IR Learning feature to map the functions on your Blu-ray’s remote to your EVOLUTION 50/55. See the section, Learning: Setting Up Your Evolution 50/55 to Learn Additional Button Commands for more information (on page 9).
GETTING STARTED: BASIC TV SETUP This User Guide shows you how to set the EVOLUTION 50/55 Simple Advanced Remote Control to operate your TV. First, in the Component Codes List at the back of this manual, find your TV’s 3-digit code. Note, some manufacturers have several codes and it may be necessary to try more than one. If you can’t find the code number, you can cycle through the codes as described on page 5 in Search: Setting Up The Evolution 50/55 to Control Your TV When You Don’t Have A Code Number.
4. The EVOLUTION 50/55 automatically sends an OFF signal to your TV. If your TV recognizes the code, it will turn off. 5. If your TV does not turn off, repeat steps 3 through 5 with a different 3-digit code until it does. If your TV does turn off, go to step 6. 6. To commit the EVOLUTION 50/55 to this TV code, press the button one more time. The button light will blink 3 times fast and then turn off. The EVOLUTION 50/55 exits setup mode and you’re done.

3. Press and release button. The AUX button will blink once, and stay lit. This indicates the EVOLUTION 50/55 is in AUX setup mode. 4. Using the numeric keypad, enter 210. As you press each key, the AUX button will blink once to acknowledge your input. 5. The EVOLUTION 50/55 automatically sends an OFF signal to your TV. If your TV recognizes the code, it will turn off. 6. If your TV does not turn off, repeat steps 4 through 6 with a different 3-digit code until it does.
LEARNING: SETTING UP YOUR EVOLUTION 50/55 TO LEARN ADDITIONAL BUTTON COMMANDS Once you’ve set up a TV, your EVOLUTION 50/55 Simple Advanced Remote Control automatically sets its ON , OFF , – CH + , – VOL + , MUTE , PREV , and numeric keypad buttons to work with your TV. Likewise, there may be other buttons you’d like to map from your TV remote to your EVOLUTION 50/55. This example shows how to map the ZOOM button so you can control the aspect ratio of your TV screen using the EVOLUTION 50/55. IR Sensor 1.
3. Press the ZOOM button on the TV remote (other names for this button may include “Picture Size” and “Aspect Ratio”). To acknowledge this Zoom command, your EVOLUTION 50/55 button will flash 3 times fast and turn off. If no Zoom command was received, the button on your EVOLUTION 50/55 will stay lit for 20 seconds or until you press the button one more time to cancel this learning sequence. 4. To confirm your EVOLUTION 50/55 can send Zoom commands to your TV, press the ZOOM button.
In this example, we map the thumbstick to navigate downwards on a Blu-ray Disc™ player menu: 1. On your EVOLUTION 50/55, press and hold the DVD button and the THUMBSTICK in the position together for 3 seconds. The DVD button will light up, blink once, and stay lit. This indicates the EVOLUTION 50/55 is in IR Learning mode. 2. Place your Blu-ray player remote and the EVOLUTION 50/55 Simple Advanced Remote Control head to head, 3 to 5 inches apart. 3. Press the Down Arrow button on the Blu-ray player remote.
ENSURING COMPLETE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE MENU BUTTON AND DIRECTIONAL THUMBSTICK Usually, once you assign a component to a device button, the MENU button will access the menu of that device. If the menu does not appear, see Learning: Setting Up your EVOLUTION 50/55 to Learn Additional Button Commands (on page 9). LIGHT Once you confirm the MENU button will access your device’s menu, check that the directional LIGHT thumbstick on your EVOLUTION 50/55 will navigate the menus1 of your 2 device.
SMART VOLUME CONTROL (ALSO CALLED “AUTOMATIC PUNCH THROUGH”) The EVOLUTION 50/55 is preprogrammed with Smart Volume Control already enabled. As such, when you press the – VOL + or MUTE buttons on the EVOLUTION 50/55, it adjusts the volume of your TV from any mode. Better still, Smart Volume Control works out of the box even before you assign devices to the other mode buttons.
CONTROLLING VOLUME AT YOUR AV RECEIVER INSTEAD OF YOUR TV (PUNCH THROUGH VOLUME CONTROL) By setting up Punch Through Volume Control, we’ll override Smart Volume Control, so that the EVOLUTION 50/55 will control the volume at your AV receiver instead of your TV. 1. Turn on your TV, AV Receiver, DVD player, and speakers. 2. On the EVOLUTION 50/55, press and hold the DVD button for 3 seconds. The DVD button will light up, blink once, and stay lit. This indicates the EVOLUTION 50/55 is in setup mode. 3.
How to disable punch through volume control Turn on your TV, AV Receiver, DVD player, and speakers. We will step through how to do this for DVD mode. 1. On the EVOLUTION 50/55, press and hold the DVD button for 3 seconds. The DVD button will light up, blink once, and stay lit. This indicates the EVOLUTION 50/55 is in setup mode. 2. Press the – VOL + button once. 3. Press and hold the DVD button down until it blinks 3 times. Release the DVD button. 4.
HOW TO ASSIGN SMART VOLUME CONTROL TO A “HOME THEATER-IN-A-BOX” SYSTEM If you own a home-theater-in-a-box (HTIB), assign it to the AVR button. This way, when you place the EVOLUTION 50/55 in AVR mode and issue volume commands, it will give priority to your HTIB’s AV receiver instead of your TV.

RESTORING EVOLUTION 50/55 TO ORIGINAL FACTORY SETTINGS If you wish to restore your EVOLUTION 50/55 to its original factory settings: 1. Press and hold together the button, DVD button, and ENTER button for 3 seconds 2. All 6 mode buttons will light up, briefly stay lit, and then turn off. These buttons are: , DVR , AVR , DVD , STB , and AUX . Your EVOLUTION 50/55 is now restored to its original factory settings and ready for new programming.
Default Backlight Color Settings The Evolution 50 backlight displays in amber only for all models. The EVOLUTION 55 backlight displays in blue when it is operating in or STB mode (STB stands for “set top box” and refers to your satellite or cable box). The EVOLUTION 55 backlight displays in amber when it is operating in any of the following modes: DVR , AVR (Audio/Video Receiver), DVD , or AUX .
HOLDING, AIMING AND PLACING FOR BEST RESULTS LIGHT The EVOLUTION 50/55 Simple Advanced Remote Control was designed to give you choices when it comes to holding, aiming, and placing it for best results and maximum convenience.
ONE-HANDED USE The EVOLUTION 50/55 is lightweight. This makes it easy to use with just one hand. With this in mind, the buttons on your EVOLUTION 50/55 are laid out for maximum convenience. LIGHT On the left side, player controls typically used for operating DVD players and DVRs are grouped together in a circle. Clockwise, the controls on the right side are forwardoriented and the controls on the left side are reverseoriented. The directional joystick is located in the center.
