How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000 Interactive Program Guide The Interactive Program Guide is a convenient way to see a list of current and up-coming programs and quickly tune to channels. Press display the Interactive Program Guide. to Typical Interactive Program Guide Note: If you select a channel within a past or current time slot, you display the program on that channel (which may be in progress).
How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued Quick Settings Screen The Quick Settings screen contains shortcuts that allow you to quickly access frequently used features. Press on the remote control to display the Quick Settings screen.
How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued Quick Settings Options Option Description Add (channel) to Favorites Adds the current channel to your list of favorite channels. Enable Parental Control Locks or unlocks your blocked channels. Unlocking allows viewing of all blocked channels while your EXPLORER 2000 is on. Record (channel) Records the current channel. Make sure your VCR power is on and you have a blank tape inserted before you begin recording.
How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued General Settings Screen The General Settings screen contains preferences that enable you to define the functions and features of your EXPLORER 2000. See General Settings Preferences for a description of each preference on the screen. Note: Your cable company determines which options appear on your screens. You may not have access to all options described. Press twice on the remote control to display the General Settings screen.

How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued Preferences Description PPV Purchases Lists the pending, past, and pre-purchased Pay-Per-View programs Purchase PIN Changes the Personal Identification Number you set up for purchasing Pay-Per-View programs. First-time users: your cable company assigns and activates this number Reminder Timer Sets up to eight timers to remind you to watch a program.
How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued Understanding the Icons Icons in the channel banner and the Interactive Program Guide provide information about the channel you are watching. Icon Description Blocked channel Unblocked channel Closed captioned - channel has text subtitles for hearingimpaired viewers. This option applies only to channels that offer closed captioning. Second Audio Programming - channel offers alternate audio (such as Spanish) with the TV picture.
How to Use Your EXPLORER 2000, Continued Understanding Ratings for Television Programs The table below describes the rating categories and codes that are associated with television programs in the United States. Icon 11 Description Y Program is appropriate for children of all ages, and specifically designed for children ages 2 through 6 years. Y7 Program is appropriate for children age 7 years and older.
Optional Features Introduction Your cable company may offer additional features such as those defined on the following pages. Inquire with your cable company about available options. Listening to Music You can listen to music through your EXPLORER 2000 unit. The music is transmitted via digital signal with quality comparable to that of a CD (compact disc). 1. Do you know the channel you want to listen to? • If yes, use the remote control keypad to select the channel.
Optional Features, Continued How to Install the Bypass Module The EXPLORER 2000 provides a bypass feature that allows you to view an analog channel while recording a digital (or analog) channel on your VCR. 1. Bend the metal tab to the Bypass connection toward you, then pull the tab off to prevent it from falling into the EXPLORER 2000. CABLE IN BYPASS 1 2. Optional Features, Continued How to Use Bypass When you use Bypass, the regular cable signal goes to your television, and you can watch any regular cable channel. At the same time, the EXPLORER 2000 sends digital cable signals to your VCR for digital channel recording. Optional Features, Continued How to Install Tape and View The Tape and View feature allows you to use two EXPLORER 2000 Digital Home Communications Terminals, connected by an Ethernet cable, to watch one digital cable program while recording another. WARNING: To prevent electric shock, match wide blade of power plug to wide slot, and fully insert. Caution: Before you power on the EXPLORER 2000, install the AC power plug into the EXPLORER 2000 unit first, then plug it into an electrical outlet. Problem No picture What To Do • Plug your television and EXPLORER 2000 into an electrical outlet. • Make sure all cables are properly connected. • Make sure the TV power is on. • If your setup includes a VCR and/or stereo, make sure you have properly connected them to the EXPLORER 2000. • Make sure your TV is tuned to the proper output channel (3 or 4). • Make sure the Bypass is disabled. See How to Bypass for more information.
Problems?, Continued How to Replace the Remote Control Batteries Your remote control requires two AA alkaline batteries. 1. Press forward then lift up on the lever on the back cover of the remote control. The battery cover releases, and you can pull the cover up to remove it. T6434 2. Appendix A How to Program the Remote Control Introduction The Model 8650-ER1 remote control for the EXPLORER® 2000 Digital Home Communications Terminal is a universal remote control. You can program it to operate your TV and your VCR using the following procedures. How to Program for TV Operation Make sure your TV is powered-on before you program the remote control. 1. Locate the TV setup code in the tables on the pages that follow. If your TV is not listed, see Searching the Code Library. 2.
How to Program the Remote Control, Continued To Program for VCR Operation You can program the EXPLORER 2000 remote control to play video tapes. If you want the EXPLORER 2000 to manage the recording of events with your VCR, you must use the VCR Commander™ module. Without this module, you must manually program your VCR to record.
