Great wide-angle pictures made easy The secret to taking bright, colorful underwater pictures is to get as close as possible to the subject. Ideally within 5 ft. Without a wide angle lens, you may be too far away from the subject to take a colorful picture. With a wide angle lens, you increase field of view up to 50%. The pictures to the right are taken at 5’ (1.5m) distance. The turtle picture on the top was taken without wide angles lens, the bottom was taken with the wide angle lens.
Attaching lens retaining lanyard to camera Feed the retaining lanyard through the lens cover tab and clip it onto the camera’s wrist strap to prevent dropping or losing the lens.
Attaching lens to the camera The lens snaps on to the camera’s lens port. With the neoprene lens cover on, push the lens into the lens port until it “clicks” in place. To remove lens, grab the lens and pull at a slight angle until it releases from the camera.
IMPORTANT 1) There must be water between the wide angle lens and camera’s lens for the lens to work properly. Remove any air trapped between the lens and camera by removing and attaching the lens while underwater. 2) Maintain a shooting distance of 18in (45cm) to 6ft (1.8m). Switch the camera to macro focus for shooting distance of 12in (30cm) to 30in (75cm). 3) Always observe and practice diving safety. 4) Always be in total control of your buoyancy before taking a picture or video.
Quick tips from the pro 1) Be patient, calm, and approach subject slowly. Most fish will be frightened and swim away from you. Don’t chase fish. Let them come to you. 2) Be observant. Study coral heads closely for sea life. You will be amazed at the abundance of sea life that dwells within a small area. 3) Be creative and experiment with a variety of photo opportunities. 4) Make sure the wide angle lens is completely seated onto housing lens port.
Using wide angle lens with a flash 1) Keep the camera’s internal flash off when using the mini wide angle lens. The wide angle lens will partially block the camera’s internal flash and cause shadowing. 2) For flash photography, it is recommended to use the SeaLife flash accessory (item SL960 or SL960D) with your wide angle lens. Visit your authorized SeaLife dealer or www.sealife-cameras.com for more information about Sealife flash accessories.
Caring for your wide angle lens 1) Soak lens in fresh water for at least 20 minutes after each use and allow to dry before storage. Never let salt water to dry on lens. 2) Follow proper lens cleaning instruction. First, brush or blow away loose dirt, sand or debris from lens surface. Then, clean lens with a mild soap water solution and dry with a clean cotton cloth. Do not use any cleaning agents or chemicals.
