Outdoor operating restrictions Outdoor operating restrictions The following section describes the outdoor operating restrictions for the 8120-0 access point. United States and Canada 2.4 GHz Band IEEE 802.11b/g operation in the 2.400 to 2.4835 GHz ISM band is governed by FCC Part 15, Subparts B & C in the US and IC RSS-210 in Canada. These rules state that the parameters for both indoor and outdoor operation in this frequency band are identical. 5.0 GHz Bands IEEE 802.
Regulatory Compliance Statements Table 2: Excepted member states France: Operation outdoors for IEEE 802.11b/g is limited to 2400 to 2454 MHz, channels 1 through 7, at a maximum EIRP of 100 mW. The 8120-O access point is disabled from operating on Channels 8 through 13 when either "outdoor" mode or an "outdoor antenna configuration" is selected. Italy: Operation outdoors for IEEE 802.11b/g is prohibited without obtaining a license.

Introduction This section describes site conditions required before installing the WLANAP 8120-O access point. Site Planning Perform a visual inspection to determine and document the physical characteristics of the site.
English Safety Precautions This section describes powerline, installation, and surge protection safety precautions for the WLAN AP 8120-O. Warning: Only qualified service personnel must perform installation. Read and follow all warning notices and instructions marked on the product or included in the documentation. Powerline Warning: Avaya warns that failure to comply with power and safety instructions could cause harm to persons and equipment.

Installing the WLAN AP 8120-O Avaya strongly recommends that you use an outdoor CAT-5E Ethernet cable for all external connections. The AP8120-O supports 802.3at (also known as PoE+). Avaya recommends that you use an Avaya-provided PoE power injector when operating theAP8120-O. The access point receives power and data through the RJ-45 port. Installing the WLAN AP 8120-O Installing the Ethernet surge arrester An Ethernet surge arrester is provided as an accessory with the AP8120-O access point. It is for indoor installation and it provides lightning and surge protection for indoor Ethernet equipment that are connected to AP8120-O. The Ethernet surge arrester is compatible with Power Over Ethernet (POE) devices and supports normal and reverse polarity PoE. For a typical installation, refer to the following diagram.

The PD-9001G-40/SP is a single port, Gigabit Midspan with surge protection injector that is 802.3af and 802.3at compliant. When using the PD-9001G-40/SP, you are not required to use the Ethernet surge arrester provided with the AP8120-O. For release 1.
