Headset transducers are an essential part of all existing headsets. These transducers generate magnetic
fields. Such fields are also caused by induction loops. The strength of the magnetic field depends on the
acoustic and mechanical design of the product. The magnetic field may in some cases have an influence
on medical devices. Depending on the headset usage and the model of the medical device, the magnetic
fields of transducers and induction loops can interfere with cardiac pacemakers and implanted
defibrillators.
Based on the following industry standards, Sennheiser has created measurement procedures and
magnetic field classes to determine the potential risk to the user:
EN 45502-2-1 / -2 Active implantable medical devices
Part 2-1: Particular requirements for active implantable medical devices intended to treat bradyarrhythmia
(cardiac pacemakers) correlates with ISO 14708-2
Part 2-2: Particular requirements for active implantable medical devices intended to treat tachyarrhythmia
(includes implantable defibrillators) correlates with ISO 14708-6
The table below shows the relevant usage recommendations for the different magnetic field classes.
Magnetic
field class
Usage recommendation
A
The product generates only weak magnetic fields. If you are wearing a cardiac pacemaker or an
implanted defibrillator (ICD), it is safe to use the product.
B
The product generates weak permanent magnetic fields that could influence cardiac
pacemakers and implanted defibrillators (ICDs).
Increase the distance between the ear cup / ear piece / ends of the earbows with the earpads /
magnetic mount and the cardiac pacemaker or implanted defibrillator if you perceive any
influence.
C
The product generates stronger permanent magnetic fields that could cause interference to
cardiac pacemakers and implanted defibrillators (ICDs).
Always maintain a distance of at least 3.94" (10 cm) between the ear cup / ear piece / ends of
the earbows with the earpads / magnetic mount and the cardiac pacemaker or implanted
defibrillator.
Please check the appendix for the specific magnetic field class information for your products.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your local Sennheiser representative.
