C
reate breathtaking jewelry or small
keepsakes using almost any medium
you can imagine in the portable E-
and Q-series: enameling, silver clay, china
painting, glass, and
low-fire ceramics.
The Xpress-Q-11A
and switch-operated
Q-11A, which fire to
2350°F, can fire all of the
above plus stoneware,
porcelain, and small glass
castings—all on a com-
mon 120 volt outlet.
The Xpress E and Q
series feature a 3-key digi-
tal controller mounted in the kiln base to save ta-
ble top space. The front control panel is tilted for
easy operation of the Sentry Xpress controller.
If you are having difficulty choosing a kiln,
buy a small E- or Q-series and experiment with
many different techniques. Then buy a larger kiln
later. After you buy a larger kiln, you can use
your E- or Q-series indefinitely for testing glazes.
For instance, the digital Xpress-series can
slow the cooling to achieve dramatic shifts in
glaze color. Try this with iron reds. Enjoy the
richer look of gas firing.
J-14 Ceramic Fiber Kilns
Jewelry, china paint, Enameling
T
he J-14 is made of energy-efficient ce
-
ramic fiber for fast heating and cooling.
It comes in four versions:
G
J-14-1: Infinite control, 120 volt
G
TnF-J-14-1: Digital, 120 volt
G
J-14-2: Infinite control, 240 volt
G
TnF-J-14-2: Digital, 240 volt
All J-14 kilns use the same size firing cham
-
ber. Maximum temperature is 1700° F.
J-14-1 and J-14-2 infinite control models
include a built-in thermocouple. An attachment
block is mounted on the back of the furnace for
easy hookup to a pyrometer or portable TnF 2
controller (page 21).
The firing chamber is a one-piece ceramic
fiber shell with embedded elements. For greater
thermal efficiency, the space between the steel
case and the ceramic fiber shell is filled with ex
-
tra ceramic fiber insulation.
The J-14 comes with a vent hole and steel
cover in the top and door. The door seals
tightly with a heavy spring latch. The controls,
located in the base, stay
cool for long life. No extra
stand is needed.

Except for the E-14A and Xpress-E-14A, both
manual and Xpress E- and Q-series kilns ship by
UPS. Enjoy lower shipping cost and faster service.
(The E-14A and Xpress E-14A still ship by truck
line.) Specially designed cartons and foam padding
assure that the kilns will arrive
safely.
Heating ele-
ments, exposed in
dropped, recessed
insulating firebrick
grooves, are
easy to re-
place. Un-
latch and
open the
door with one hand.
No extra stand is needed. The built-in base
stays cool even during extended holds.
The E-series infinite control models include a
½" thermocouple hole stamped in the back of the
steel case. (The firebrick behind the steel hole is left
undrilled since thermocouple thickness varies.)

“I am 70 years old. I have quite
a few china painter friends and
have been teaching a long time.
Every single one of my students
and friends has a Paragon Q-11A.
I always let my gals see how won-
derful that kiln is. You can plug it
in anywhere and fire it quickly.”
