used glass dates back more than 3,000
years to Egypt. For centuries it was a
lost art. In 1985, Paragon joined other
glass pioneers in reawakening this exciting art
by introducing our first glass kilns.
Paragon glass fusing kilns on pages 14 - 20
simplify the process of firing glass. Most of
them heat from above, spreading the heat
evenly over the glass surface.
New Glass Kiln Lid and
Roof Element Groove
The heating elements in the lid or roof of
most of our glass kilns use pinless element
grooves. Since the element coils are wider than
the groove opening, the elements stay in place
without pins.
Styles of Glass Kilns
QuikFire
High speed, good for experimenting with new
designs; glass jewelry, small projects.
Blue Bird
A large bead-annealing kiln. Great for classes.
Fusion-Series Top-Loading Kilns
This is a very popular basic, economical gen-
eral-purpose glass kiln. (pg 15)
F-Series Lamp Working
Anneal large glass figurines; also good for
small glass fused projects. (pg 15)
Ovation-10 Oval Kiln
An economically priced large glass fusing and
slumping kiln. An excellent profit center. (pg 16)
Pearl-Series Clamshell Kilns
The firing chamber lifts out of the way for
easy loading. (pg 17)
GL-Series Front-Loading Kilns
A heavy-duty deluxe series very popular for
fusing, slumping, raking, embossing. (Pg 18)
Janus Multi-Purpose
Fire glass and pottery in a single kiln. (Pg 19)
Vulcan Crucible Kiln
Specially designed for melting glass. It also
fires hot enough for pottery. (Pg 19)
Table-Top Front Loaders
The SC-series (pg 20) and E- and Q-series
(pg 13) are portable and popular for glass fusing,
slumping, enameling, and silver clay.
Sentry Digital Controllers
Precision Sentry controllers simplify even
complex firings (pg 4). Enjoy accurate repeat
firings. If you have a Digitry controller, we can
make kilns designed to use the controller you
already own.

ramics, glass fusing,
enameling, silver, and
china painting. Small
glass pieces can be fired and
cooled to room temperature
in only 30 to 40 minutes.
Small ceramic pieces take only
40 to 50 minutes. No more

larger kiln to test-fire

new glaze. Demon

strate the QuikFire at
craft shows, and
crowds will gather.
Experimenting with the
QuikFire is fun. Instead of risking a good piece
of greenware on an untried technique, you can
fire throw-away clay scraps and view the re
-
sults in minutes.
The QuikFire is a ceramic fiber shell with
an embedded element. It measures 6" x 6" x 6"
inside. The shell rests on a ceramic fiber base
with steel stand. The QuikFire is rated to
2000°F. It fires on 120 volts and needs no
other heating source. At only 1560 watts, it
uses less power than many hair driers.
To see how your work is progressing, tilt
the shell up an inch for several seconds. Read
temperature at a glance with the built-in py-
rometer, which indicates
when to start watching the
ware inside the kiln.
You can make projects
faster with two or more
shelves. As the kiln is fir

ing, prepare your next pro

ject on the spare shelf in the
furniture kit. Re

Slower firing is nec-
essary for large,
thick pieces. Simplifies enameling and fusing
decals to ceramics or glass. May be used for
other kilns rated to 120 volts, 15 amps.

Blue Bird
Anneal glass beads and figurines
T
he new Blue Bird is
a dream kiln for the
glass bead enthusi

ast. It safely anneals the
glass to prevent breakage
during cooling.
The kiln opens door
-
ways of opportunity in
beadmaking. The 2 ¾”
tall, 10” wide double
doors give a total of 20”
width for inserting bead
rods. This kiln is ideal for
seminar teachers. It is like having two kilns in
-
stead of one.
The Blue Bird has a user-friendly 3-key Sen
-
try Xpress digital controller. It automatically
maintains the annealing temperature that you
program. The controller is packed with features
but is so easy to use that your child could pro
-
gram it.
The Blue Bird has a durable insulating fire
-
brick roof and high-tech ceramic fiber insulation
in the walls and floor. The element is seated in
pinless grooves in the roof. This is a true high
performance kiln you will enjoy using often.
The rugged steel case is light weight, portable,
with a slotted base and louvered switch box for
long life of the electrical system. The Blue Bird
plugs into a standard household outlet. It draws
only 960 watts, less than many hair dryers. The
kiln ships by convenient UPS.
