T
he Paragon Janus-series kilns can fire both
pottery and glass. Heating elements are
mounted in the top and sidewalls.
Select between glass and pottery with the flip of a
switch. In glass mode, heat comes from the top ele
-
ments and the middle sidewall element. In pottery
mode, heat comes from only the sidewall elements.
In glass mode, fuse and sag large glass projects
placed on a single shelf. In pottery mode, fire to cone
10 or fire several shelves of fused or cast glass. These
are truly versatile kilns designed to give you years of
enjoyment.
The elements in the lid/roof are mounted in a
firebrick “ball” groove that eliminates element pins.
The element coils are wider than the groove opening,
so the elements stay in place without pins. The
groove dissipates heat efficiently.
The 3”-thick lid on the Janus-23 and Janus-27
top-loading kilns are easy to lift with the exclusive,
patented Paragon spring counter-balance. For easier
maintenance, we use 2” high blank wall bricks in the
top row of the Janus-23 and Janus-27. Since the
brick is without element grooves, it is less susceptible
to damage during loading.
The patented control box on the Janus-23 and
Janus-27 opens forward for easy maintenance. A
folding support arm holds the box in the open posi-
tion.
The digital Sentry 2.0 includes two modes:
Cone-Fire with programmed slow cooling and
18-Segment Ramp-Hold. Manufactured by the
Orton Ceramic Foundation exclusively for Paragon.

The Vulcan heats approximately 50 pounds
of glass to a molten state. Mix custom glass col
-
ors. Make huge glass figurines, paperweights,
blown vessels, stringers, and much more. Pull
your own neon tubing. Make glass castings.
Sidewalls are 4 ½” thick. The extra insulation
and heavy 12 gauge elements are designed for
the stress of very long heat soaks. The S-Type
platinum thermocouple is standard on all Vulcan
kilns. It far outlasts the K-Type thermocouple.
The Vulcan has a separate bottom section
with a row of 2 ½” high wall bricks, held in place
with spring twist locks. Should a crucible crack
during firing and leak glass onto the kiln bottom,
merely replace the damaged bottom section.
The Vulcan comes with a 2” thick ceramic fi
-
ber board insert that fits into a recess at the top
of the walls. Cut a hole in the center of the fiber
board to match the top of a crucible. The fiber
board holds heat inside the kiln when you open
the lid. The Vulcan is 13 ½” wide x 18” deep. The

Since Janus kilns are designed for porcelain,
they also easily fire ceramics, china paint,
decals, gold and, of course, glass. In the pottery
mode, they are ideal for glass casting.

Janus-Series Glass/Pottery Kilns
Fire glass, pottery, and glass casting in the same kiln
fiber board in place reduces the firing chamber to
15” deep.
Program the digital controller for
the exact consistency of glass melt that
you desire. The hinged lid floats and
has a lock-in lid support, which you
can remove if you prefer to use the lid
chain. You can also use the kiln for
pottery, glass fusing, or glass casting.
Comes with a one year warranty and
heavy duty stand. (However, Vulcan
elements are not warranted due to the
long firing cycles of a crucible kiln.)
