Easy to Load
Ceramists who struggle bending into
top-loading kilns will enjoy the ease of Para
-
gon’s front-loading pottery kilns. The door
swings open wide on a heavy steel rod with
sealed bearings. Spring-loaded latches press
the door tightly closed.
Plenty of Power
The cone-10 Iguana, Super Dragon and
Dragon front-loading kilns have power to
spare. This results in long element life, because
the elements do not “struggle” to reach high
temperatures. Dropped, recessed grooves pro
-
tect industrial-gauge elements for long life.
The elements are “tuned,” which means
hotter elements are placed in areas of the firing
chamber that need more heat. This results in
superior heat distribution.
Extra Insulation Saves
Energy and Slows Cooling
Iguana: 3” thick firebrick—½” thicker than
standard.
Dragon Walls, Door, Roof:
3” firebrick plus 1” ceramic fiber = 4”
Dragon Floor: 4 ½” firebrick
Super Dragon Walls, Roof, Floor: ”firebrick
Super Dragon Door:
3” firebrick plus 1” ceramic fiber = 4”
The inner door is recessed to help seal in
the heat. Because these kilns store heat so effi
-
ciently, elements last longer.
The extra insulation not only saves energy
but also cools the kiln slowly without having to
turn the elements back on. This gives the
microcrystalline structure and color of the
glaze sufficient time for full development.
Cool slowly to achieve dramatic shifts in glaze
color such as iron reds and enjoy the richer
look of gas firing.
Stand Options
The Dragon and Iguana stands are priced
separately from the kiln. Available stands:
Dragon
24” tall stand without casters (shown above)
24” tall stand with casters
8” tall stand with casters
Super Dragon
The stand is built into the kiln; no extra
charge
Iguana
22” tall stand without casters (shown above)
When ordering a Dragon or Iguana, spec
-
ify whether the stand is to ship separate from
the kiln or to ship pre-installed on the kiln as
one unit.
Digital Accuracy
The Sentry 2.0 digital controller is standard
on Paragon front-loading pottery kilns. Re
-
sults are repeatable from one firing to the next
with astounding accuracy. (See page 4.)
The Type-K thermocouple, hermetically
sealed for accuracy, is standard. But we rec
-
ommend the optional Type-S for stoneware
and porcelain.
The Dragon & Super
Dragon
The Dragon door is mounted to a ¾”
heavy steel door hinge rod with sealed bear
-
ings. The Super Dragon has a floating door
system with four spring door latches. The door
hinge is fastened to a 2” tubular steel frame
that extends from the floor to the top of the
kiln. Other features:
G
Long-lasting, industrial-grade mercury relays
power the elements.
G
A bank of built-in NEC/UL-compliant
high-amperage fuses protects the kiln and
circuit wiring.
G
Two 1” non-tapered peepholes in the left side
of the kiln
G
1” space between switch box and kiln keeps
electrical components cooler for long life.
