“Smart” solenoid features. The “smart” solenoid offers
fully automatic switching of the auxiliary battery system. It
also protects the charging system from damage resulting
from excessive current due to high discharge rate.

How it works. The smart solenoid monitors the charging
system voltage. When the charging system is not operating
(engine off and system voltage below 12.8V), the solenoid
opens.
Charging: When the charging system is operating (engine
on), the solenoid will connect the main battery and the auxil-
iary battery, allowing the auxiliary battery to charge. The
solenoid engages at about 12.8V.
