shiny, bare metal appears.
Secure braided strap: A part in the braid large enough to
pass a screw or bolt can be made by simply pushing strands
apart with a small pointed object (such as a ball-point pen)
to accommodate the fastener. Remember to re-tighten any
bolts or screws firmly in place. (See Chapter 4 for details of
mobile grounds.)
In vehicles with steel frame construction, you will also want
to run a ground strap from the body to the frame. If you
choose to connect the grounding strap to the vehicle trunk or
hatch lid, remember that these may ride on nylon bushings
which will insulate the lid from the body. Therefore an addi-
tional ground strap from the hatch to the body may be need-
ed.
Mounting the QMS. Follow these steps in mounting the
QMS:
1. Attach the SG-303 antenna base to the QMS box using the
supplied screws. Assemble the polymer feed-through bush-
ings and nuts loosely onto the cable and the QMS, but do not
lead the cable through the box or tighten the bushing and
nuts yet.
2. Slide the SG-235 unit into the QMS so that the porce-
lain antenna feedpoint insulator is on the same end as the
hole for the antenna cable feed-through. (Note: the QMS sys-
tem can be mounted either vertically or horizontally; howev-

Caution:Do not attempt to
use a QMS-2-150 (a unit not
rated for 500 watts) with an
SG-235 for 500 watts.
Warning: Attempting to
use a QMS not manufac-
tured expressly for 500
watts could seriously dam-
age our QMS or your ampli-
fier and will void the equip-
ment warranty.
