Copies are smudged or dirty.
The document glass or the inside of the document cover
is dirty.
Clean them regularly.

Use a clean original.

Replace with dry copy paper.

Lighting fixture flickers.
The same power socket is used by the lighting fixture and
the machine.
Connect the machine to a power socket which is not used by
other electric appliances.
