Device Management
The Web server includes the standard
system settings and network
administration settings tabs allowing the
administrator to remotely set up and
manage the device.
The administrator can set up email
notification. Messages can be sent to the
administrator or specified email address
for anything from paper jams to empty
toner bottles. Users can be notified when
long print jobs are completed. Even the
status of the machine can be emailed to
the dealership to help ensure the machine
is maintained properly.
Most machines are shipped
with one instruction manual
which is often misplaced. The
Operation Manual Download
page ensures users always
have access to needed
manuals via download.
Storage Backup is another
helpful feature which allows the
administrator to save all the
customizations, IDs, or settings
that have been set up on the
copier. If the device somehow
loses its settings, it can
instantly be uploaded onto the
current machine or even a new
machine. Since the device has
so many ways to customize
itself, it’s great to see a backup
feature that will enable a
speedy recovery and minimal
downtime if the unthinkable
occurs.
Last, but by no means least,
are Sharp’s security settings
which can be managed by the
Web server application.
Administrators are able to
assign IP and MAC filter
ranges, designate which ports
are or are not available, import digital
certificates and SSL information and
change password settings as required.
(See the Security section of this report for
more information.)
Above: A detailed log of the device activity can be
created and exported to the administrator’s PC for
management reporting purposes.
Below: A back up data archive of system settings
can be stored allowing for speedy disaster
recovery in the event of device failure.
