Optional Audio Connection
Connecting to a Decoder with
Dolby Digital (AC-3)/MPEG Audio
Version 2.0 Processing
When DVDs recorded in Dolby Digital or Audio MPEG
Version 2.0 are played, Dolby Digital or Audio MPEG
Version 2.0 bit stream is output from the DVD player’s
OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT connector and DIGITAL OUT
connector. When the DVD player is connected to a
Dolby Digital or Audio MPEG Version 2.0 decoder, you
can enjoy theatre-quality audio right in your home.
(An optional optical digital cable is required when an
optional Dolby Digital decoder is used. Similarly, you
must purchase a separate cable when you use the
DIGITAL OUT connector.)
Preparation
If you are using the OPTICAL DIGITAL OUT or
DIGITAL OUT connectors, the SPEAKER setting in
the SET UP window must be set to “2ch/DIGITAL”.

4 Decoder or Amplifier with Dolby Digital (AC-3)

5 Optical digital cable (commercially available)/or

appropriate cable for your audio system.)
6 Connector for optical digital sound input or coaxial
digital input. (Use the appropriate connector for
your audio system.)
7 Connect the speakers. (See page 13.)

1) The DVD player is set to “PAL” at shipment.
2) No action is required if you are playing PAL discs (UK TV standard).
3) If you wish to play an NTSC disc or are using the DVD player with an NTSC only TV, then insert an
NTSC disc immediately after the DVD player is connected to the mains and switched on. The DVD
player will then automatically switch to NTSC mode operation.
4) If you have played a PAL disc and then wish to use an NTSC disc, play the NTSC disc as described in 3)
above and bring up the NTSC Setup screen.
