This function allows you to enjoy a “surround sound” effect when
you are using an analogue connection (using AUDIO OUT
“FRONT” on the DVD player) to 2-channel audio equipment (TV,
etc.).
Virtual Surround operates when you are playing DVD discs
recorded in Dolby Digital (AC-3) sound or Dolby Pro Logic sound.
Preparation:
When you use the Virtual Surround function, set the SPEAKER
setting in SET UP to “2ch/DIGITAL”.
When you play a disc recorded using Pro Logic, set the
PRO LOGIC setting in SET UP to “ON”.
These functions do not operate for VCDs or CDs.
Virtual Surround cannot be used with linear PCM sound.
1 While a disc is playing, press the VIRTUAL button on the remote
control. Then take the appropriate steps below for your speaker
setup (2ch/DIGITAL or 5.1ch) in “SET UP” (see page 16) and the
audio modes recorded on the disc.
Virtual surround does not operate when you set the SPEAKER
Setting in SET UP to “5.1ch”.
Virtual Surround does not operate when you are using a Digital
connection.
If the speaker mode is set to “2ch/DIGITAL” in SET UP, the setting
switches between “2ch (down mix)” and “Virtual ON” depending
on the audio modes recorded on the disc (“Dolby Digital” and
“Pro Logic”).
When VIRTUAL is on, “VIRTUAL” lights on the front panel display.
When PRO LOGIC is on, “PRO LOGIC” lights on the front panel
display.
