Thank you for purchasing this product. This manual explains how to install and configure the software that allows the machine to be used as a printer. If the software is not installed correctly or you need to remove the software, see "TROUBLESHOOTING" (page 12). ABOUT THE SOFTWARE The CD-ROM that accompanies the machine contains the following software: Note To view the manuals in PDF format, Adobe® Reader® or Acrobat® Reader® of Adobe Systems Incorporated is required. If neither program is installed on your computer, the programs can be downloaded from the following URL: http://www.adobe.com/ • Printer driver The printer driver enables you to use the printer function of the machine.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE Note If an error message appears, follow the on-screen instructions to solve the problem. After the problem is solved, the installation procedure will continue. Depending on the problem, you may have to click the [Cancel] button to exit the installer. In this case, reinstall the software from the beginning after solving the problem. STANDARD INSTALLATION The procedure for a standard installation of the software is explained below.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 8 When installing is finished, click the [Close] button. Caution • If you are using Windows Vista and a security warning window appears, be sure to click [Install this driver software anyway]. • If you are running Windows 2000/XP and a warning message appears regarding the Windows logo test or digital signature, be sure to click [Continue Anyway] or [Yes]. A message will appear instructing you to connect the machine to your computer. Click the [OK] button.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE CUSTOM INSTALLATION The procedure for a custom installation of the software is explained below. Use the custom installation procedure, when the machine is used as a shared printer on a network, or when installing the PC-Fax driver. 1 The USB or parallel cable must not be connected to the machine. Make sure that the cable is not connected before proceeding. If the cable is connected, a Plug and Play window will appear.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 9 Select [Connected to this computer] and click the [Next] button. 10 When installing is finished, click the [Close] button. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE INSTALLING THE PC-FAX DRIVER Note • When using the PC-Fax function, be sure to install the printer driver before installing the PC-Fax driver. • The PC-Fax driver can only be used if the facsimile expansion kit is installed. 1 Perform step 2 through 7 in "CUSTOM INSTALLATION" (p. 5) 2 Click the [PC-Fax Driver] button. Before installing the software, be sure to click the [Display Readme] button and view the detailed information on the software.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 7 Click the [Next] button. 8 When the installation completed screen appears, click the [OK] button. 9 Click the [Close] button. This completes the installation of the software.
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE USING THE MACHINE AS A SHARED PRINTER If the machine will be used as a shared printer on a Windows network, follow these steps to install the printer driver in the client computer. Note To configure the appropriate settings in the print server, see the operation manual or help file of your operating system. 1 Perform steps 2 through 7 in "CUSTOM INSTALLATION" (p. 5) 2 Click the [Printer Driver] button.
CONNECTING TO A COMPUTER Follow the procedure below to connect the machine to your computer. A USB cable for connecting the machine to your computer are not included with the machine. Please purchase the appropriate cable for your computer. Interface cable USB cable Shielded twisted pair cable, high-speed transmission equivalent (3 m max.) Please purchase a USB cable that supports USB 2.0.
CONFIGURING THE PRINTER DRIVER After installing the printer driver, you must configure the printer driver settings appropriately for the number of paper trays on the machine and the size of paper loaded in each tray. 1 Click the [Start] button, click [Control Panel], and then click [Printer]. • In Windows XP, click the [start] button and click [Printers and Faxes]. • In Windows 2000, click the [Start] button, select [Settings], and then click [Printers].

TROUBLESHOOTING Problem The printer driver is not installed correctly by plug and play. Point to check Solution Did you connect the machine to your computer before installing the printer driver? If the machine was connected to your computer with a USB cable before the printer driver was installed from the installer, check if information on the unsuccessful installation remains in "Device Manager". (For information on "Device Manager", see Help in Windows.
TROUBLESHOOTING REMOVING THE SOFTWARE To remove the printer driver or software installed using the installer, follow the steps below. 1 Click the [start] button and then click [Control Panel]. In Windows 2000, click the [Start] button, point to [Settings], and click [Control Panel]. 2 Click [Uninstall a program]. 3 Select the program or driver that you wish to delete. • In Windows XP, click [Add or Remove Programs]. • In Windows 2000, double-click the [Add/Remove Programs] icon.
