SNMP
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is widely used in local area networks (LANs) for
collecting information, managing, and monitoring network devices, such as servers, printers, hubs, switches,
and routers. Specialized software in each SNMP capable device, known as an Agent, continuously monitors the
status of the device and reports the results to the SNMP Manager software, which can then act on the report.
