The Model DB-ADPT detector/base adapter inter-
faces Series 11 detectors with previously installed
DB-3S bases. For Series 3 air duct detector models
AD-3P, AD-3ILP, and SA-3P, use Series 11 Air Duct
Update Kit AD-11UK, which contains both the
DB-ADPT and the required DA-304 air duct cover for
Series 11 detectors.
WARNING:
When replacing a detector with a different
model, be aware that existing detector ac-
cessories connected to the base or air duct
housing that were compatible with the old
detector may not be compatible with the new
detector. Always read the Installation Instruc-
tions accompanying the detector to determine
detector and accessory compatibility.
INSTALLATION
For DB-3S Bases:
1. Remove the existing detector from the DB-3S
base.
2. To install the DB-ADPT adapter into the DB-3S
base, align the notch in the outer flange of the
adapter to the raised surface on the outer ring of
the base (Refer to Figure 1).

3. Push the adapter into the base and rotate
clockwise to engage the electrical connections.
The adapter will automatically stop and lock into
place.
4. To make the adapter to DB-3S interface
tamperproof in the base, use the Model DB-LK.
5. Install a Series 11 detector following the
installation instructions included with the detector.
NOTE: If it becomes necessary to remove the
adapter, push the adapter up into the base while
rotating the adapter counterclockwise. Continue
to rotate counterclockwise until stop is reached.
Then pull downward to disengage from the base.
When the DB-LK lock is used, disengage the
locking mechanism prior to removing the adapter.
For Series 3 Airduct Housings using the AD-11UK
Air Duct Update Kit:
1. Remove the sensing compartment cover from the
existing duct housing.
2. Remove the existing detector from the duct
housing.
3. To install the adapter into the duct housing, rotate
the adapter counterclockwise on the outer ring of
the base located in the duct housing until the
adapter drops into place.
4. Push the adapter down into the base and rotate
clockwise to engage electrical connections. The
adapter will automatically stop and lock into place.
5. Install a Series 11 detector following the
installation instructions included with the detector
and then install the new DA-304 sensing
compartment cover. Tighten the cover snugly, but
not so tightly as to warp cover and cause leakage
around the edges.
NOTE: If it becomes necessary to remove the
adapter, push the adapter down into the duct
housing while rotating the adapter counter-
clockwise. Continue to rotate counterclockwise
until stop is reached. Then pull upward to
disengage from the housing.
