3.4.6 Testing Server and FEP communication
After you have connected and activated the PAK, and rebooted the PC – as docu-
mented in the DMS Connectivity Configuration Guide (007083) - you should verify
that the Server and FEP stations (if any) are communicating correctly. You do this
with the System Supervisor Browser (Select Start Æ Programs Æ MM8000 Æ
System Supervisor Browser).
Î For more information on the System Supervisor Browser, see p.152.
Testing the communication
To test Server-to-FEP communication, do the following:
1. Log on to the Server and FEPs.
2. If the Server tasks did not start automatically, start them manually:
Start Æ Programs Æ MM8000 Æ Start MM8000 Servers
3. Launch the System Supervisor Browser
Start Æ Programs Æ MM8000 Æ Launch System Supervisor Browser
4. Check the task icons displayed by the System Supervisor Browser: they should
all be green.
5. Check that all of the FEPs are listed.
6. Select each FEP and verify that the right pane of each shows green icons for all
tasks.
7. Check that all of the configured drivers are listed.
3.4.7 Setting up Composer security
Composer tool includes security checks to ensure that only authorised users can
start and operate Composer software.
Composer access security is enabled during software setup (see pag.28).
When Composer is started, the logged-in user is checked and compared to the
User Manager list: if the user is present in the list, then Composer opens; other-
wise an error message displays and Composer stops.
Composer users may or may not be included in the MM8000 users defined for any
given project.
3.4.7.1 Composer User Manager
The User Manager tool is a simple application that allows configuring the Windows
users who can start Composer, create new projects, run the configuration com-
mands, and access the node information.
Æ Refer to the Composer Technical Manual, document no.A6V10062401.
3.4.8 OPC functions
MM8000 software includes both OPC client and OPC server functions.
In order to connect OPC client stations and enable them to communicate with the
field units controlled by MM8000, you can enable the MK8000 OPC server func-
tions, as described in the next section.
Instead, in case MM8000 has to connect to OPC server that provide the data con-
nection to field control units, the MM8000 OPC clients functions are used.
Æ Refer to the MM8000 OPC Connectivity Guide (document no.A6V10065253).
